Re: Thoughts on this ESR meter
I know EVERYONE wants an ESR meter, but I still use my EICO 950B, can test caps for leakage at up to 450 volts! ESR meter can't do that!

Re: Cheap meters.
I bought a couple Uni-T UT890D meters from Gearbest.com, about $20 each, work great, and I got an HY-19 (whatever that is) for $15.00 from gearbest on sale. It's actually a decent meter, fully fused with HRC fuses. Glad I got it on sale cause they aren't that cheap now.

Re: Which Fluke do you have?
The only Fluke handheld I have is an 8020B, and I have an 8600 (4 1/2 digit), an 8000, and an 8050B.

Re: Recommended Capacitor Tester
I have an old EICO 950B. It works for the stuff I work on, but will only tell capacitance and if it leaks. AND, you can test caps up to 500V for leakage. And it actually supplies 500 volts to the cap.

Re: Bench PSU recommendations
I myself don't have any "new" bench supplies. But I do have an old Lambda LH125FM, an HP6202B,an HP6205B,and an HP6212B. These are fairly cheap, reliable and most important, REPAIRABLE!

Dell vostro 1700 power issue-won't boot
I have a Vostro 1700 that was working fine. Shut it off and when I tried to start it, the power light comes on for about 4 seconds and shuts off. No NUM CAP,CAPS LOCK,SCROLL LOCK lights come on. It does try to charge the battery. I'm guess a CPU or motherboard issue.
Have pulled periphery hardware, memory cards etc. No luck.
Does anyone have a schematic for this motherboard?
The number on the Dell sticker is CN-OXT386-48643-81M-1025
Thanks for any help.

Re: Audio Generator
TrueRTA
Sweep Generator
Both soundcard based programs.
I have a Leader LAG-26 Audio Freq Generator
that I use on my workbench.
But I have used TrueRTA on my desktop and it works well for injecting audio
freq signals.

Re: Website with many laptop schematics!
All the schematics I downloaded opened right up, no problems.
What schematics did you find with passwords?

Website with many laptop schematics!
[B]I know there are a lot of laptop and desktop schematic requests here.
I happened to come across a website that has a LOT of schematics FREE!
So I thought I'd share:

Do you still have a schematic for a Dell Inspiron 1150?

Re: My first Scope!
Another thing to consider is that a lot of older analog scopes BANDWIDTH IS DESIGNATED as -3b at a specific frequency. My 100Mhz scope will show a trace well beyond 100Mhz although the calibration will off.

Re: My first Scope!
I have several scopes, my first was a Telequipment D54-10Mhz that I got off eBay for $50.It actually works perfect and is calibrated.
I have 3 Tektronix (454a,475,2337),3 HP (1740A,1725,1720A) and a Phillips PM3212-25Mhz that I got for $45 including shipping.
I use my webcam on a tripod if I need to have pics or vid for later reference.
I use the Phillips for general stuff, to monitor the output from my Sig Gen, output from an amp, and use my others for more detailed things. Wouldn't mind a digital, but the older analog units can do some things...

Re: DIY 555esr meter & Old Roe
I use my old Eico 950b, it will charge to about 500v. I also have a B&K 801, and I use my scope and signal generator for quick tests. I've also used my Lambda regulated PS to charge up low voltage caps. If the current doesn't drop quickly then it's probably not good. I don't waste a lot of time though as most caps are cheaper than the time to test them. Just my opinion.Last edited by gearhead63; 07-09-2014, 07:20 PM.

Re: Edsyn 951SX Temp Controlled Soldering Station
Man I have one, you won't be disappointed. Heats up FAST! Can be calibrated and Edsyn sells many different tips, from chisel and pointed to units for heating complete IC assy. Go to the edsyn sight, the stuff isn't cheap, but it's [profession quality equipment.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hey whats up?
Well let's see, as my handle implies.......I'm a serious gearhead. Been repairing things, or learning how to, since I was about 8. I don't have a degree, but am self-taught, as with everything I know how to do. I've been a mechanic/electrician/electrical technician/ computer tech etc for many years. I've acquired the necessary test equipment over the last few years to work on electronics at a component level, and here I am. Look forward to being a part of this forum!
