  • Re: Toshiba 19DL502B totally dead

    Hi Michael,

The thermal epoxy is better as it goes hard like a glue, run a line of it across the black middle part of three diodes so that they are joined. It basically means the heat will be spread out across the diodes if one is getting hotter than it should (from my understanding). Thermal paste like you use on a CPU would not go hard and might drop off in time, so is not too good. Plus the silver stuff is conductive so could cause a short.

    Good luck!

  • Re: PC cleanner for free?

+1 for ccleaner, I also use spyware blaster which is free (if you don't mind manual updates).

Well I am so glad I found this forum

I have EXACTLY the same problem, and followed the advice by the knowledgeable tom66, I have found one of the three grouped diodes is faulty! So I ran it with just two diodes for a minute and all is well. Saved me £30 for replacement PSU board, or £150 for new TV. So well chuffed!!

The diode I removed has SB5B0 printed on it, the closed match I have found is a SB5100 from RS which comparing data sheets seems a good match.

I will of course replace all three diodes...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi all,
I'm a high voltage engineer in the UK, and a keen pc builder. I always wanted to be a tv repair man when at school, but fell into hv industry somehow. I have built PC's for friends/family for many years, and have always had an interest in electronics. As a kid I used to disassemble (and sometime reassemble) my parents cameras, video players etc.. one time when I was around 8 I drilled and fitted a headphone jack to the tv while they were out lol. I'm sure many of you here did similar things. Having some trouble...
