Re: Dell W1700 LCD Rev00
Bridging an inverter is the least of my worries for a fire. Millions of audio afficionados do it in their car withougt worrry. It is only a power amplifier, PMP.

Now we find that capacitors do NOT HAVE TO BULGE OR LEAK but can fail out of their tolerance and even fail but continue to conduct enough energy to power most of the other components on any board we find!
The reason is that a healthy enthusiast needs to be reminded that even the best capacitors can fail on the shelf within 15 years. They are chemicals. That is why you are here. You looked up your model number and this is the...

Re: Is 5.25 v acceptable for the 5 v rail?
This is interesting. I have 2 PSUs that will not fire up an Athlon board running at 1333Mhz. They both turn the board "on" including processor fan and hard drives, but no POST. When measured they check out fine except the 12v rail which is 11.68/11.48 respectively on each PSU. So my 12v is well below what it needs to be to get the board to post (I ended up using a PSU that did work)
Where would I look on the PSUs to correct this 12v problem? Does it sound like a MOFSET issue? The 5v and 3.3v are...

Re: MSI 6378v3
I just fixed this exact same problem using a higher powered power supply.
The machine turns on but does not produce a video signal or any POST beeps.
I checked the PSU with a volt meter and all the rails checked out fine. In fact the machine ran for months/years with this PSU. The only voltage that was slightly off was the 12v rail at 11.68v. It was a Fortron/Sparkle PSU and had internal adjustments but I could not adjust the 12v better than where it was glued to begin with.
The old PSU was 'newer' in the sense it had a...

Re: Gigabyte GA-K8NS PRO cpu fan 'kicks' with power 'off'.
I was happy to find this website:
http://angelfall.s39.xrea.com/area2ch/turion-e.html
And tried a Turion in the board but it did not boot either, so I have eliminated the possibility of the processor being the problem.
I am really thinking at this point the Northbridge? is fried since it was so jammed up with dust and cat hair the fan was not spinning. Still working on it though, just have to get the 3300uf caps.Re: Gigabyte GA-K8NS PRO cpu fan 'ki...h power 'off'.

Re: MSI MS-6312 Used in Gateway Flex System - Bad Capacitors
Well after a long night I am back! This darn thing was so finicky, I changed out processors several times but it finally took to the Coppermine-T after struggling with a BIOS update.
My NEW question is if the Nippon Chemi-con 2200uf-10v LXY capacitors now installed are low ESR or low ripple? I am getting shaky video. All the drivers are installed, etc. The shaky video starts at low rez before Windows is really booting.Last edited by SchoolDaGeek; 06-16-2009, 04:26 AM.

Re: MSI MS-6312 Used in Gateway Flex System - Bad Capacitors
Well I acquired a used board for $4.50 so it saves me wasting caps on a pair of bad VRMs. This board boots fine, no leaking or bulging caps, so it is a perfect candidate for the replacement.
I am going with the 2200ufs as well just like the OP as that is all I have on hand. The board is booting fine with an SL5QJ Coppermine-T so that is plenty, as it was the highest stepping Intel made in the Coppermine process with Tulalatin core.
The only downside is the new board has one center pin broken...

Re: Gigabyte GA-K8NS PRO cpu fan 'kicks' with power 'off'.
Hey Toast, sorry to confuse you. This is my first time posting all this so I guess I've gotten some things confused as well. Here is the new diagram that properly represents the caps on the board. The change is that the caps out near the LPT port are the extra 16v I was talking about, I've marked them all with an X, not just the first one as before.
So you are saying that it may be the rubycons that are preventing the board to boot? wow. I am going to see if I can also find someone who has an extra Athlon...

Re: Gigabyte GA-K8NS PRO cpu fan 'kicks' with power 'off'.
And after checking, I only have 'in stock'
Rubycon 1500uf MBZ T0342 and T0340
which is what I was going to start the experiment with, is only replace the 4x 16v caps and see what that does. Then I will have to wait to go further to the 330uf caps, and haven't decided yet if I would go ahead and replace the Rubycons that are already on the board because I trust them like I trust my mother (LOL)

Re: Gigabyte GA-K8NS PRO cpu fan 'kicks' with power 'off'.
Hey Toast,
NO, the PSU does not turn on at all, the fan does not spin. It was the same problem with the original power supply that was purchased 6 months ago. BOTH these power supplies will run other boards fine, and both turn on by jumping the green standby pin no problem. Just neither will turn on at all with this board, even through jumping the green pin from above (to definitively test the button on the case, as well as the circuit from the MB PWR pins to the ATX connector.)...

Re: Gigabyte GA-K8NS PRO cpu fan 'kicks' with power 'off'.
Hi Toasty,
Yes, I apologize, I tried a brand new 500watt power supply on the board and it gave the same results with nothing plugged in, just the ATX and 4pin connectors. Both power supplies will power up other boards, just not this one.
I am surprised at the Nichicons if they are at fault, but I cannot see why the Rubycons would be giving a problem. Gigabyte advertises as "all solid capacitors" on their website and even though this board is a legacy now, they certainly were practicing...

Gigabyte GA-K8NS PRO cpu fan 'kicks' with power 'off'.
Wondering if anyone has ever had any experience with this board?
I've been reading that not a few of you avoid Gigabyte boards, but this one lasted for a while as it is now in their legacy collection...
The board just suddenly died, and after a thorough cleaning of all the dust and cat hair out of the two fans I put the board under the light and found no caps either swollen or leaking, etc. (Tested the power supply, found good)
I have included a diagram of the board, it ONLY uses Rubycon and Nichicon caps everywhere, not a single 'off' brand, so I am...

Re: MSI MS-6312 Used in Gateway Flex System - Bad Capacitors
Hello Everyone, Reviving this thread after nearly 4 months.....my first post...
I am trying to fix one of these boards for a friend, and here are my two dilemmas:
1. No one ever answered an earlier question about the max CPU that this board can support or even whether it supports 100 or 133FSB at all. When I got this board it was working although the 2 capacitors near the VRM/Mofset were already bulging slightly at the top with brown ooze. My plan was to replace them and all the others on...
