  • other CAP maker near CPU socket

    from what I 've seen of it and researched caps with several makers; in most cases the TOP makers don't make the miniature parts with very high capacitance values that the board makers want in the tiny cylinders they want them in.
    Many a time I searched for a 10mm diameter cap of 2.200uF/10V, but only found that it could be had in a 12.5mm diameter component.
    This means that I found that the highest capacitance value in 10mm/10V I could find with the TOP makers was 1.500uF.
    Other makers have created what the board makers wanted,...

  • If they measured the spacing between the 'so-called' legs, being the terminals (or leads) , they would call that the 'pitch' of that 'leaded' component (part) ...



    In my previous post I specifically named the diameter of the caps (10 mm); that was of course the outside case diameter of this cylindrical component ! (a diameter couldn't be the space between the leads, nor could it - in this case - be the diameter of those leads themselves)

  • the caps you found are 16V, not 10V like most are (or even 6.3V).
    this means they are even bigger than the 10V types !
    4.700uF will be larger too than 2.200uF !
    in most cases, you 'll need caps with a max. diameter of 10mm !!!
    in practically all cases, the max. diamater of 10mm means a max. capacitance of 2.200uF at 10Volts (and this only for the best makers & the specialist series/ miniaturized) !!!

  • Using higher voltage caps won't hurt the component, but electrolytic caps need to be at or near their working voltage to 'produce' the capacitance value that is 'nominal' in the data sheets. So if you go way above what 's needed, the capacitance installed won't be the one that is printed on the component, but a lower value!

    The working voltages of the caps on the mobo's usually are well over the voltage that they 'take' while working on that board!
    So, you don't need to raise that voltage once more (to make sure); just put some 'good quality' components on the board with...

  • I have to correct you here !

    If you place 2 caps in parallel you will get a capacitance of the sum of the 2 capacitances; so 2.200uF + 1.500uF will yield 3.700uF !!!
    Best use the same working voltage, not lower, not higher (why ? ; this would be a long story, too long ...)

    If as you say, you put 2 caps in series - your example being 2x 2.200uF/10V - you would get a bipolar cap of 1.100uF/20V !!!

    The rules for CAPS are NOT the same as they are for resistances !

    I should know, being an Electronics expert with over 25 years of experience;...

  • MSI 815EPT Pro with bad cap

    I bought this board together with my first modern Pentium a while ago (Pentium III Tualatin 1133MHz w 512kB L2-cache); primary use: viewing films (DivX,XviD,DVD, ...)

    Since I 've found bad caps on my main rig recently, I checked this one visually for the same problem.
    To my dismay, I found 1 cap starting to bulge (Vcore regulator) ...

    For the moment it still runs fine, but I fear that won't last for very long!

  • EPOX 8RDA+ rev1.1 with BAD CAPS

    After just under a year's use of this board, I found a bad cap on it during a visual check; I 'd just read (not for the first time) about these and since I had a few rare occurences in the days before ...

    I found one bad Cap among the lot (so far); on my board I found a MIX of cap makers - SANYO (good) and GSC (bad).
    About 'GSC' I 've read a lot of bad things on another forum / many owners reporting bad caps from this maker !!!
