  • Re: LG Flatron W2442PA no power

When I redid my dad's Viewsonic, Which BTW when I told him I'd fully repaired it he told me I could have it, I made sure that capacitor was extremely firm, I also used Silver Rosin core instead of normal rosin core solder. I prefer to use higher quality and ensure my connections are better than stock.

I know it's a TV/Monitor, but when I'm done fixing it and after it gets back to me after I loan it out This will become my new primary monitor, I recently got a Viewsonic 24" and it's my primary for now but once I get the 32" fixed it will become my primary monitor. The symptoms are the classic no power red flashing button, typical of a failed capacitor on one of the boards. I got this for 20.00 off craigslist.... It's a HUGE score for me I'm very happy about this. Pictures to follow later tonight already taken of the outside.

Yeah... Unfortunately I have used them and my dad likes to use them when he has his computer going as a center set. I sometimes will plug them in so that I can hear the tunes when I'm doing other stuff... thank you bammbammfran for the info on that particular cap. All this help is awesome, I love to bang heads with fellow geeks it's always nice to be able to associate with my own kind and not get flamed or anything. Between you and Lumberjack777 along with selldoor(for their reference to the other article. I am going to start looking for a proper cap that...

LOL can't print anything, no paper, and I need new ink! 730.00/month isn't much to live off of, even here in the Greater Seattle area. Lumber, I sent you a PM regarding your shop. I have a millimeter gauge I just have to get it from my person in Port orchard that's got all of my Jewlery stuff, Yeah I make earrings and pendants as an additional hobby, so that thing comes in extremely handy.

Thanks Lumberjack appreciate the advice, now to go and order a proper capacitor within the next 72 hours. I've also done some soldier reflow work on the board where the soldier looked really iffy. I heated it up and looks tons better. what size is that particular cap? I know the V and UF but is my original guestimate correct that it's about 10-14mm in size with an approximate height of about 25mm?...

This might sound crazy, but have you tried the spudger and a hair dryer? I've had to use a hairdryer to loose stuff that was glued on, once I even had to as in a forum post I read many years ago heat up a heatsink with the hairdryer to get it to let loose enough to gently twist and pull off and out of the board.. that was a rather nerve racking experience.

Thanks, That's what I figured, I want to fully re-cap the entire board and redo the ones on the VGA controller as well as a precaution. Note the bloody Teapo that I specifically took a closer picture of... If I Can help by getting more pics and closeups of other caps please let me know, My multimeter went by the wayside about 4 years ago, and I'm setting money aside for my convention in September so I really don't have any spare cash to get one currently. The cash for the repair will be coming from my best friend who owes me quite a bit of cash. It's urgent...

I hope these pictures are able to help everybody see and understand what I'm looking at. The biggest cap on the right facing of the board beyond the big heatsink is the swollen capacitor. My Tablet takes awesome pictures as you can see so If I need to I can get in closer to certain things without issues....

yep, there's a buldged cap as I did mention, so, from what I've learned and read, it's safer to replace ALL of the caps. I'll post up pictures after I get home from dinner, I'm currently waiting on Schwan's so I can get my food supplies for the month as well.

Simply put it's the classic on/off screen failure where the LCD doesn't stay on. The fix is to replace all of the caps. I'd rather replace every single one of them and spend an hour or two replacing each cap than have to buy my father a new screen!

The Board I have for the power board is ILPI-024 Rev: C datecode 2007.01.15 I have a rather large Su'scon 100uf 450V light blue and black/dark blue capacitor. 99% of the capacitors on the board are Su'scon's. I have read that these capacitors are junk for the most part. I have in particular a 1000uf 25v that is bulged and there are multiple 470uf 25v identical caps(4 to be exact) there are a few smaller caps, but I was particularly shocked with seeing a teapo 220uf 16v(appears to be an SH, as do most of the caps on the power board.) some are SG. I have to get my digital micrometer from my jewelry...
