Well the single file from the Tosh website (the upgrade_mb90.bin file I think it was) was not enough to fix things - holding down the "OK" button whilst powering up the set with a thumb-drive with just that on it did nothing (apart from stopping the RED-GREEN flashing LED).

Taking note that others have said that the backlight might be problematic I carefully dismantled the display - and found that the LEDs were perfect - no obvious defects and (after scraping the multi-meter probes across the white coating over...

Did you ever find out whether it was using the wrong USB port that messed things up (even more) - just gotten my mitts on one of these and if it is just the firm-wire then I don't want to screw up what should be an easy (if only short term) fix.

I've just got one of these to look over and it has a whining, (overloaded ?) PSU and the 32/12/main 5 volt supplies are way down (5V is actually at 1.6). No obvious bulging caps, but thanks to [url=https://www.badcaps.net/forum/member.php?u=34215]tom66[/url]'s Elecktrotanya link (I've used that site before but could never remember the name!) I now have something to help me look over the PSU and associated components...

Just for the record - it has been an awfully long time since my last post - I'll update on what I needed to do further to fix this beasty:

I had to replace the YSUS module! It cost me over £40 but I managed to source on and it was worth it - though it was a nightmare getting the blasted thing off the PWB. I remember it was a dark gray ceramic/metallic hollow block about several inches square and perhaps 5 to 8mm thick with around 15 pins (it was a long time ago and I don't remember...

This is my first attempt at a Plasma TV repair on a broken set that was donated to a good home. Inspection revealed 2 of 3 3300uF 10V (IIRC) Samwa Caps (Code U9A PET) blown on the PSU and a dead (Y-Sus O/p s/c to Vs & Gnd) Y-Sus IPM on the 6871QYH953A Y-Sus panel. I checked the 4 power diodes around it and they seemed OK but after replacement of the failed items (and a fuse) I'm still left with a non-working unit.

A new member in their 40's making their first posting to get forum topic starting privileges, I'm an Electrical and Electronics Engineer who's been interested in technology since a kid, especially that relating to the controlled movement of sub-atomic particles in crystalline matrices AND in near vacuum conditions!
