Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Sounds like you may have a power supply issue.
How old is the TV?

Re: Test LED TV strip
Using a 3 volt source across each led is the safest, providing you have a current limiting resistor in series across it.

Re: Hi all, new to Plasmas, could really use some input!
as there seems to be a consensus on the ZSUS, I went to the manual to check on the ZSUS signals, and it is the only board there is no schematic for.
I did check all 3 fuses on that board, and they are good.
If the ZSUS was bad, would it also cause a very dim picture?
I am thinking of just doing a board swap, as there is no info on the board.
Thanks for your replies.

Re: Hi all, new to Plasmas, could really use some input!
So despite the info I've given,
1)all voltages good
2) make and model
3) picture of problem
4) picture of chassis
5) description of problem
6) description of my experience and tools at hand
Your only response is to complain about what you have misread.
Thanks for the help Alastair E!

Re: Hi all, new to Plasmas, could really use some input!
Yes sir, I did respond to your request for voltages yesterday, and today.
A lack of response made me re-post.
Please lighten -up, I'm not here to get on your nerves, just to get some help.
I have helped others on this site as well. It just has been awhile since my last visit.

Hi all, new to Plasmas, could really use some input!
TOSHIBA 42HP66 PLASMA 8 Yrs old
All voltages off power supply read good.
Don't know if it was a slow fail or a quick one. TV was given to me and I would really like to fix it for myself.
Overall dim picture, with solid black irregular smears, that move from right to left within the first 5 minutes but never completely go away.
Good sound, and does not seem to have any digital issues, responds well to menu options. Turns right on. Power supply sure seems fine.
Does this sound like a panel issue? If you think it may be a board, please...

TOSHIBA 42HP66 PLASMA much better pic of prob
TOSHIBA 42HP66 PLASMA 8 years old.
The picture has a black smear, that fills at least half the left side of the screen, and within the first few minutes, the black smear moves out of the way to the left. It does this on all inputs.
It is not a hard line smear, it is kind of a irregular smear, that is totally black.
Even after most of the picture appears, within the first 10 minutes, the overall picture is dark with lousy color, and and overall dark image.
The attached picture doesn't do it justice, but will give you an idea of the issue.

Re: magnavox 37mf321d/37 powering on problems
"If you trust your power supply, then you most likely have a bad main board"
Congrats on getting it to run. Out of curiosity, how is it running "better"?
At least you can recoup most of your out going money. And you saved the very substantial cost of a shop doing it.
And you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself.
In my book that adds up to well worth doing it yourself.https://www.badcaps.net/forum/images/icons/icon14.gifRe: magnavox 37mf321d/37...

Re: magnavox 37mf321d/37 powering on problems
Oh, by the way, I for one who tries to troubleshoot everything down to component level, draws the line at things like the Main Board or the T-Con. Those are just too propietary and offer too little info (for the most part) to try to T-shoot.
I for one do not hold board swapping on these TV's against anyone. Power supply boards, yeah, especially if you have a schematic, a O-scope, etc. But these are not the old CRT TV's that were not all proprietary digital logic.
I really despise the fact that troubleshooting is pretty...

You? ranting? After my caffeine induced diatribe, I wouldn't call that ranting!https://www.badcaps.net/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif
Sounds like you have it under control. The only thing I haven't heard you try is disconnecting the inverter board to rule that out from overloading the PS.
Granted, two inverter boards is less likely, but still remains a possibility.....
It's worth a shot, and won't hurt anything. Just one more piece of info to go off of.

Re: magnavox 37mf321d/37 powering on problems
Figures, it was too easy.
F.O.T.
Could you give a short chronological synopsis of what was done again? And the results?
But if you KNOW the main board isn't the issue, And you KNOW the P.S. isn't the issue, And unplugging the inverter doesn't make the TV turn on with audio at least, and the Remote Receiver board has been replaced.....
That kind of leaves the T-Con board standing alone doesn't it? Have you unplugged the panel, to check for audio only as well? If nothing else, there HAS to be...

Re: magnavox 37mf321d/37 powering on problems
Fixer,
I agree with you 100%, at least it wasn't a guessing game when it came to repairing CRT televisions, I could always troubleshoot to component level, whether it be a transistor in the AGC circuit, or a bad horizontal output transistor for example.
These newer HD flat panels are MUCH less reliable. And onn top of that, it's practically a guessing game as to whats wrong with the set.
I worked at a TV ( and all other consumer electronic repair shop) just last year.
The owner who was also...
