  • Re: Samsung LN46B630 loses LCD Backlight after 1 to 2 Hours

Just thought I'd post the solution to my backlight problem. Turns out it was the power supply. I just couldn't bring myself to throw this nice TV out, so it sat in my basement. My son was given a 46B650 with a minor screen problem, and was happy to get it out of his business space. Mine had an AOU AC03 panel and his was a Samsung SS02, so only the Tcon board was different. I started by swapping the mainboards with no luck, but the PS did the trick.

  • Re: resale value nosedived .

My philosophy of TV buying has changed since I bought my first 1080P set in 2006m back when they were still new technology. I paid $1000 for a 37" Westinghouse monitor to use with Autocad, that brand would be considered the equivalent of Changhong now. I fully expected it to die at any second while using it for my consulting business, but it continued to work fine. 4 years later I bought a Samsung CFL backlit set for my living room, figuring I'd go upscale with a known brand and wouldn't have to worry about it going bad for a long time. End result...

  • Re: Vizio E470VL backlight shutting down

Taterbug, thanks for sharing your efforts to repair your tv, yours is a perfect example of why I'm skeptical of used Ebay boards. In my case, I have a Samsung that shuts off its backlight after about an hour. My first thought was a failing tube, all my voltages seem stable until the mainboard shuts down the 5V_DET pin on the power supply. Is there a reliable way to check if a tube is slowly failing?

Just did a quick check on Ebay, only thing that came up were used tubes with the typical "pulled from working TV, tested...

  • Samsung LN47B630 loses LCD Backlight after 1 to 2 Hours

First post to this forum, I'll try to keep it short. The TV works perfectly for 1 to 2 hours, then screen goes black, sometimes it will flicker on and off 2 or 3 times over a minute or so, other times it just goes off. Sound stays on. My first thought was capacitors, so I checked both ESR and capacity on the power supply electrolytics, they were all fine. DC voltages at the inverter board and connector to mainboard remain steady both before and after the backlight goes off, the only change is the 5v_det pin to the mainboard goes from 5.2V to zero. I assume the inverter circuit is reaching a predetermined...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello, my name is Bill from San Tan Valley, Arizona. Glad I found this forum, I'm trying to keep my Samsung TV out of the landfill. I've been an electronics hobbyist for 35 years, which puts me back almost to the vacuum tube era. I'm amazed how detailed some of the advice and solutions presented here is, looking forward to posting my problem, and maybe even contributing.
