Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
Did R302 burn? If it did, I recall F1, R302, Q301, Q302, C301, C302 and C303 (.47uf, 400v pulse film cap) worked. I had so many at the time, if the obvious didn't get it I just went on to the next. Glad this site has helped. Did you look at Mouser.com. Bought my parts there in 2011. Much cheaper. Keep us posted on your results.

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
Wish you the best. You are about as far as most have gotten with this supply... going where no tech has gone before so to speak... mostly because it became not necessary. But, would like to know if you are successful. best of luck

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
what makes you suspect the p/s? here's a quick check. power off and unplugged, remove P1 from motherboard, plug good power cord back in (do not turn on computer). should read +5vstb between pin 1 and pin 23. this trickle power is essential for logic board to power on. somewhere in this info Toasty has posted a diag of the pinouts. also, don't overlook resetting the PMU.

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
if you are asking me... i'd suggest you look up the data sheets. Q856 (MMBT2907A) is a PNP power amp switch which as i recall feeds the optocouplers. BC I think is a Siemens designation. A check of data sheets would tell you if they are compatible.

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
Mouser also had the MMBT2907A (134K instock in 2011). If you want to repair this supply, you'll have to master soldering them. It has a lot of surface mount transistors. In 2011 the opto chip was .25 cents (US) for qty 10; the PNP switch (2907) was .05 cents in qtys of 25. I was never able to find any manual. Found the G5s no longer worth repairing.

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
just checked back (never give up hope) to see if anyone was still messing with this. In 2011 I purchased some 551-PS2561AL-1-A optocouplers from Mouser Electronics. they were the lead bending type (surface mount). Ideally you want the DIP type, but the leads on the AL can be modified to work. The complete NEC part # is PS2561B-1. Good luck

sounds good. this thread is full of hints on this troublesome supply. Some hits, some misses. the optos are another thing to check. good luck

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
A while back Toasty posted a diagram to load the supply in series with a light bulb which helps protect the supply while testing. Might be worth looking for it on this BB. Best of luck!

forgot to add... I don't have any single CPU units. That might be why I wasn't seeing this possibility.

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
You must have the patience of Job!. I may try it just to see if I can do it... but as you said (and, I said in my post) the days of the G5 are numbered. We are back to PCs. I'm looking at getting rid of several hundred between the iMacs and towers. Only holding on to the intel boxes. It has always bugged me that I couldn't get the TOP repair totally worked out on this supply. Need any parts, let me know and appreciate all the input.

Would love to see a pix of that. We are talking about a G5 tower, right?

Motherboard is OUT of the chassis, right?

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
Toasty.. given the way it sits underneath everything, what did you do? Make a special harness to hook up without place the p/s in the case?

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
fixing to get rid of a bunch of these supplies... did think you could just jumper 13 & 14 (power on) to get readings. hate to throw in the towel on these supplies since there are still a bunch of G5s using and losing them. But, we are going cheap with HP Compaq 6200s and elite books. olivere sounds like you have a combination of the blown TOP and R302 failure. you did look there didn't you.

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
Do you get any "relay clicking" on the primary? All the other stuff (F1, R302 etc. mentioned in post 94) checks out?

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
Toasty -- I was referring to C301, 302 and 303 not the mains. Duties have pulled me off this p/s but I still have "a ton" of them around and it bugs me I was never able to fix this problem.
Sigma -- please post if you are successful in repairing your supply. It's the burnt R302 problem, right? Known things that go are F1, R302, Q301 & Q302 and C301,302 & 303. Would love to know if you are successful.

Re: LiteOn PA-6601-1A (600w) blows its TOP
Just wondering if anyone found the problem when these supplies take out F1, R302 transistor and caps on the primary side?

Re: G5 power supply partnumber exchange?
If you have access try //support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 for complete info on this problem. If all your know-goods are in fact good, focus on 3rd party RAM and internal hardware if any. Bad news is you have pretty well gone down the list of things to check already so these are just an outside shot. OS reinstall would remove any doubts on drivers, etc. Lucky you, sounds like you have "one for the books"
