• Re: Sony KDL-46V4100 Ghosting/Flicker

I was able to secure it and it worked great for about 24 hours. Turned it on today and the issue is back again. Because of the location (front instead of the top), I have to wonder if it's even something that can be easily fixed with pressure/padding. Frustrating when something so small (and fragile) like the ribbon can be a killer.

Looks like my ribbon issue requires pressure from the front instead of the top. Pressing down on the top makes things worse, so the separation must be on the panel-to-ribbon part. I'll come up with something using your method that will work I think. Tinkering time. Thank you!...

budm, just to clarify, you put the thermal pad between the metal frame and the panel, and the padding just keeps pressure on the ribbon/tab?

    Thanks

Just went through every ribbon connection to the panel. One, in the upper right-hand corner, is the issue. If I press down on the ribbon, oddly enough, the TV is perfect, the second I let go of the ribbon, it goes crazy again (darker areas/ghosting). It's extremely touchy. But it's the only one doing it. Any options, or is this one tiny ribbon killing this panel?...

Hey all - picked up a new repair, looking for a little advice if anyone has a moment. TV powers up fine, but exhibits ghosting. If the TV is moved or jostled, or lightly tapped (especially along the bottom edge) the TV flickers and sometimes gets slightly darker in the ghosting areas. Definitely seems like something loose around the edge of the panel. I've seen some videos where people open them up and tape down the panel edge somehow to fix this type of issue. Would that make sense here as a short-term fix? Thanks...

Yep, I think that's the one 0603 CP101P, 3A. Looks like I can buy a 10-pack of those for $4 shipped, so worth a shot. After that I'd probably scrap the project and sell for parts if that screen line is stuck there. I'll order the 0603's and give it a shot....

Thanks, that's my major concern. If that line is there, the TV becomes almost useless. I mean it could be a backup or kids TV or something if they don't care about the line I guess, but overall that line makes more than a couple bucks repair a waste I think.

When you say the fuse, do you mean that surface-mount looking tiny one, I think called CP101P? I saw a repair video on a similar TV (46" model) that showed CP101P as the bad fuse on the T-Con causing no picture. Not sure what the value of it would be, or where I'd get...

Any other thoughts on this one? Just wondering if this is a scrap heap situation, or worth chasing further. Thanks

Yep, I thought that was kind of strange. I disconnected both and turned the TV on, same glow and same colorful line. Just so I'm sure we're talking about the same board, you mean the two ribbon cables that attach to the board in the top/center of the TV, circled in the attached image, right? You can't see the ribbon cables/connections in this image, but they're up at the top.

I tried it with one attached, then disconnected it and tried the other. Then, for kicks, I tried both detached and nothing changed. If uploading a video to youtube...

Thanks tom66. I tested the above as instructed, trying each ribbon separately, and the image stayed exactly as shown in the original post. Screen glowing, colorful line down the right side. Zero change with either ribbon disconnected. I even tried it with no ribbons connected, screen didn't change.

So if we assume the T-con is an issue, even if I replace it (or find its faulty components), that rainbow-colored line will still be there, correct?...

Update: Did some more testing, haven't found anything wrong with the other boards. Still thinking TCON for the no-video part.

Thoughts on whether or not I should try to fix this one? I've yet to have success fixing a TV with a big line like that in it. If you guys think it's not worth it, I'll ditch the effort.

    Sony KDL-40S2010

Hey All - Got a new repair I'm looking at, hoping for a little advice. Picked this TV (Sony Bravia KDL-40S2010) up free, was told "the light comes on, but it doesn't work". I brought it home, plugged it in, and the first thing I see is screen glow, which is a good sign. But then I notice there is a thin colorful vertical line on the screen. Not good, my brain immediately says bad panel possible.

I hooked up a HDMI feed and I hit the TV/Video button on the top of the TV. After a few presses, I find the HDMI input because sound starts coming out perfectly fine. The screen...

  • Re: Samsung S5053 Repair

Just a quick post to let everyone know it worked! Replaced the Y-sus board today and bam, the tv came right on. Looks great, but wow do these older non-fan plasma screens run hot. Thinking about selling it (and my 7 year old LCD) and using the profit to help buy a newer LCD.

Just a quick bump to see if anyone has further thoughts on this, or anything else I should test before I replace the Y-sus tomorrow.

Okay. So I'm good with the plan to perform Y-sus replacement, hook it up, but disconnect Buffers initially and turn the TV on?

I've already tested everything with the Y-sus and Y-buffers disconnected and the TV runs fine (audio works, etc, just no picture). So I'm thinking add the new Y-sus, turn it on again, see if everything holds okay. Turn it off, add the buffers back in, turn in on and cross my fingers? I'm just paranoid that there's more I can test on the buffers. I don't want them to blow the new Y-Sus, but the short...

  • Re: Samsung S5053 Repair

I'll have to play the noob card here and ask for some clarification on that once I get the board haha. Guessing I can figure it out from the service manual, but I've been wrong before.

Double-checking the Y upper/lower buffer testing: I found no shorts using the method in the video (probe on Main-to-Buffer ground connector pin, other probe to check for shorts across all IC termination points on both sides of buffer connections using the slow-drag method). Is there anything more I should test on the buffer boards, or is that...

  • Re: Samsung S5053 Repair

I went ahead and re-tested everything last night to be sure. Only thing I can find is the Y-Main issue, so I went ahead and ordered a new board. The damage to the original just looks brutal and trying to rig up something to work around it would have been tricky for me. Plus the components + shipping would have ended up close to half the price of a whole new board, so I went with the latter option. Should be here in a couple days, I'll report back when I try it out.

If anyone goes through this thread and thinks of something I may have missed,...

I performed the tests shown in this video (because it's pretty much the exact same buffer from what I can tell... looks the same, also 50" samsung plasma):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB238KaaHVA

No shorts found using that tutorial, which is basically the same method as the one you linked, only on a board more closely resembling mine. Double-check me if you want to peek at the video I used, but I think I'm good. If not, please let me know.Re: Samsung S5053 Repair<br /> <br .../> I performed...

With X-Main connected and Y-Main disconnected I do get sound. So X is good as you said.

I just checked, no shorts on the Y-Buffer, we're good there....
