Re: recommend ESR meter, Multimeter, hot air rework station
The "Blue ESR Meter" by Bob Parker has a website, http://members.ozemail.com.au/~bobpar/esrhints.htm, with hints for reducing battery usage. Also, how to use an outside power supply to power the unit. Several other hints as well. This meter is well discussed in this forum.Re: recommend ESR meter, Multimeter,...battery usage.

Re: Dimension 8400 with bad HN(M)'s
Oh, I think I get it now. I might be too old and slow for membership on this board. Guess the "yoke" is on me, ha, ha. Bye.

Re: Dimension 8400 with bad HN(M)'s
Thank you very much bgavin, this will save me a lot of trouble. I appreciate your help. The first cap in your list, Nichicon VR 470, what is the voltage or am I just missing something? Thanks again.Re: Dimension 8400 with bad HN(M)'s

Re: Dimension 8400 with bad HN(M)'s
Hi dood. I have to recap an old Dell Dimension 8400 and would appreciate a cap list if possible. The computer is in service and I don't want to shut it down until I get the parts. Thanks for any help.

Re: BenQ FP557 issue
I have a dumpster Hann 19" that had similar symptoms. There were no caps with visible damage, so I replaced all those in the power supply circuit. Now, it works like new. This was before I got my ESR meter. I later checked those caps and only one had bad ESR, so it only takes one bad to shut the whole thing down. Good luck.

Re: Back Light Question
Thanks Bill for the really fast reply. There are two CCFLs and it looks like they are controlled by a LT1451ACN Pulse Width Modulator. Is this what actually controls the CCFLs? I am attempting to hook everything back up and check the voltages on this chip while pressing the brightness button. Nothing I can find is marked bright, brite, etc. so I am flying blind.
I did take apart an old laptop display to see for myself what a back light was. If anyone is interested, I will make and post the pictures later.

Back Light Question
I have a dumpster Dell E151FPb that recapping recently brought back to life. It has a great looking display, nice and bright. I discovered that the brightness control does not change the brightness of the screen. The OSD looks like it is working but the brightness does not change. The contrast works ok. My question is "Do the backlights control the brightness of the display?" If so, how. If not, the how is the brightness controlled? Thanks, Vik.

Re: Dell Ultrasharp success!
My wife is gone to Oklahoma with both my digial cameras so I can't show before and after pictures, but......It looks great!
Guess which ones were bad. The bulged ones read 1.2 and 1.3 on my blue meter....

Re: Dell Ultrasharp success!
Thanks for the verification of the parts list (LOL). I have a Dell 1707FPVt dumpster find with the seemingly exact power supply board, except mine had one leaker and two bulgers. This is the first time I've found Su'scon. I was looking them up when I found your post. Good job.

Re: usb to parallel port converters
I had a similar situation and used a print server with a lpt port. Just print through the router to the print server. A router and print server can be had for little expense and is expandable. HTH.
