• Re: Dell 2480zx dreamcolor pink tint.

At one time I did have a monitor which I replaced the CCFL. The monitor kept turning black. The failing CCFL had a pink tint to it.

At this point I don't really have anything to loose. I'll try replacing the green caps on the board. I have some extra caps anyway....

diif, I can't believe I titled it a Dell. I knew going into this it was HP -duh!

I thought of the CCFL too but don't know any better, this is suppose to be an LED display. Would the LED cause the pink?

budm, I did use two different computers and cables but the display still has some pink.

I never saw a monitor with so much electronics, typically 2 or 3 boards. This one has another board under a cooling fan. I can post some pix later.

Thanks.

Good point, I'll check tomorrow. I suppose I need to lift the main board and check if there's another connector underneath going directly to the LCD.

• Dell 2480zx dreamcolor pink tint.

Got this Dell dreamcolor 2480zx that has a pink tint. Been looking around to point me in the direction that would cause this. The color on the photo posted exaggerates the pink, it's not as strong as it looks, but really noticeable.
Struggled to open this monitor. Looking inside the caps visually look ok.

Anyone with suggestions?...

• Re: 40" TCL TV with blue band

Ok thanks, I was hoping to hear something other than bad LCD panel. E waste I guess.

• 40" TCL TV with blue band

L40FHDM12 has a blue horizontal band on the top and a white vertical bar, wide on the top and narrow on the bottom when there's no signal. Also, the white band drifts on the screen.

The first image is when the TV is just turned on.
The second image is when changing sources.
The third through the sixth is comparisons of the source vs. the display where the source is connected through the HDMI.

Would there be a chance of bad caps on the main board?...

Lumberjack - you were right, it was the T-CON board. Bought one for 25 bucks, including shipping, installed it and no more lines. This is a nice high resolution monitor.

Thanks.

I surprised by the reply, I figured that there was no one out there, except for Lumberjack, with a suggestion. Looking back, that was the only suggestion so far. After reading around the net seems like Lumberjack is right, the bad picture points to the T-Con board.

As far as checking caps, using a multimeter is the was the only way I found without having an ESR meter. If anyone out there knows another method, please let me know. I really don't plan on buying a meter anytime soon, I will just continue using what ever I have on...

• Re: Would bad caps cause this display?

Removed the radiation shield to expose the board. Maybe I can try some freeze spray or heat to see if that changes the display.
There's 11 bigger caps on the main board that appears to be okay. I suppose I can try swapping some out. I tried checking one of the caps using and old analog multimeter (Triplett 630-A) using this method:
http://electricaltechnology.org/2013/06/how-to-check-capacitor-with-digital.html
According to the instruction on that page the cap s/b okay.

I tried to move to the...

• Re: Would bad caps cause this display?

Got a few more pictures here. I'm so used to these PHD cameras (push here dummy) that I don't know how take darker images. Let me know if I'm compressing them too much.

So Lumberjack, seen any "flying fish" lately?

I looked at the T-Con board you had mentioned. Looks like it's buried under some radiation shield and had two ribbon cables and two plugs going into it. Makes sense that would be the number one suspect.

Thanks for your help....

• Would bad caps cause this display?

Got this Dell 2405FWP monitor with this (video noise?) lines/dots on the display without a video cable plugged in. I was wondering if bad caps would cause this? Has anyone an idea what would cause this behavior?

Thanks in advance.

A little about me. I've have had limited success in repairing electronics. Fixed a couple of active subwoofers with blown caps. One of the sub's cap was completely gone when I opened it, just the two soldered wires remained. Had some luck changing caps and ccfls in monitors. Reflowed bad solder joints in AV receivers. I basically try to...

• Re: Why would anyone get a desktop anymore

As a hobby I like to repair desktops, laptops, monitors, receivers, washers, dryers, or anything around the house.

I worked on two laptops that was shutting down after a few minutes of being turned on. Pulled huge pieces of ghost turds that was blocking the exhaust of the heatsink. There's nothing in the household that is dust free, even my head is full of dust.

We have desktops and laptops in my household. In my opinion it's just so much more comfortable using a desktop with a nice monitor, full size keyboard,...

• Re: Acer AL1715 briefly works then goes black

I was able to get one of the two 1715s working, I'm using it right now. I swapped out the bad light tubes from one to repair the other. Even if they were the same models the wired ends were different, even the wire routing and containment was somewhat different. After completely taking one monitor apart I realized the I only needed to remove one screw and the light tubes slide out with it's carrier. Not sure if I'll put the second one back together. Knowing me I probably contaminated the layers of the lcd and plexiglass with dust....

• Re: Acer AL1715 briefly works then goes black

I inherited two these monitors that have images but no light. Figuring that they were the caps I replaced both of the inverter boards with new caps. Much to my dismay both monitors still didn't light up. I was able to "try" the inverter board with the replacement caps on another identical monitor and to my amazement it worked! Used a ccfl power supply from a PC case mod that I had and powered up the light tubes one by one. There was one light from each monitor that was pinkish red in color. I may try to scavange one tube to...
