• Re: Panasonic SC Board - BAD 30F131 IGBTs

Where did the image go? DG301 and 30F131 both are in question here.

I wonder which PCB(s) is/are available as great LOW-COST doner board(s) for both of these IGBT's, any ideas?...

  • Info PLS RE: TC-PxxST30 Svc-Menu Eeprom editor/Flash Utility

I am needing as much information as I can gather about the built in Eeprom editor and flash utility built into the TC-PxxST30 series of Panasonic Plasma televisions. This includes a data sheet for the Peaks Eeprom, any code listing for the programs controlling the TV functions, and schematic info for the Peaks module IC.

This utility is found in the Svc-Tool information display, it is hidden and can be made viewable by positioning your cursor in the top right box after which you must hold the MUTE button for 3 seconds to make it visible. You can select the utility by selecting it...

  • Re: HELP PLS! Anyone repaired a Panasonic Viera TV?

Same thing happened to me the first time I got lightning, 1 HDMI port out (no damage to EEPROM), later another (EEPROM still ok), and finally component went out with rest of board. None the less good advice, those voltages were where I planned on beginning. I HOPE THE EEPROM WAS NOT DAMAGED.

Something I discussed on another thread, there is an EEPROM editor built into the SVC-TOOL. You have to select the top right box and hold the mute key for several seconds so it will appear. Once there you can...

  • Re: HELP PLS! Anyone repaired a Panasonic Viera TV?

I thought I would hold off a bit on this since things were working so well but I do need to re-calibrate this set or SWAP the PEAKS EEPROM IC8902 to get back all my original service mode picture settings.

The Peaks EEPROM is the flash IC that contains the picture settings, as verified in the service manual under "Measurements and Adjustments" section 9 PP-28. I bet that should fix the problem I had with the 65 inch TV board I originally had in my 42 in set.

    IC8902 is the chip...

  • Re: Re-Setting Black Levels to NEW on Panasonic Plasma TVs

In retrospect, I believe I introduced this thread inconsistant with my intentions. Black levels are what lead me to post but not the desired subject.

Although gaining an improvement in PQ, however minor, is worthwhile the real driving element behind creating the thread is learning more about the EEPROM editor, the data, and their respective use.

I suppose the best way to learn is to get in the editor and begin looking at the data. Data alone will not provide many answers but...

The full factory reset does not reset the hours or the black level from what I am learning. Why Panasonic has re-adjusted black levels over time I am not sure and like you I have wondered about this, especially the impact of re-setting those levels.

I have asked the author of the article, mentioned in my first post, about use of the SVC-TOOL EEPROM editor but have not heard anything. I will also ask a few other questions related to reseting the operation hours when he replies.

  • Re-Setting Black Levels to NEW on Panasonic Plasma TVs

While searching the Internet for calibration information I came across an article that indicates the BLACK LEVELS for Panasonic TVs are automatically set to different levels based upon number of hours recorded in the PEAKS EEPROM ICs.

The article I read is here http://panasonic.mironto.sk/ , the individual authoring the article is using an ARDUNO board to re-flash the EEPROM IC resetting the hours and hence restoring his BLACK levels to level settings used when the set was new. He describes how the levels are changed and when, for the first several hundred / thousand...

  • Re: Suffix resistors.

    That is correct tom66.

When I said the relevance of using resistors to indicate the board suffix was to verify software. What I ment is during the Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) process the software drives the selection of components to be placed on the boards, the placement area, and any other assembly line computerized functions like fine tuning. By using resistors soldered on the board that in itself is validation of which CAM software was used to control the manufacturing of the circuit board. Something a printed label...

  • Suffix resistors.

Obviously anyone can change the suffix resistor placement on a board so the board appears to have a different suffix.

My question is will the board then take on the charistics of the changed suffix or are the suffix resistors only irrelevant marking objects?

From viewing a board, and schematics, it appears there is no electrical significance for the suffix resistors. Is this correct? If this is correct then I suppose the only relevant reason for having resistors / jumpers placed on the suffix portion of the board is to verify the software used during board...

  • Re: Help with Panasonic TC-P42ST30 After Power Surge

Tom66 mentioned in another thread that main boards from similar set with different size panels are not compatible. The only potential solution to this per Tom66 is to swap flash chips containing the boards plasma panel personality.

    SOLUTION TO OP"S QUESTION:
First I must assume OP tried to repair his TV with a board from another size panel or of a Panasonic series other than ST30.

I had the exact same problems OP had from repairs made down to how the picture looked, bright wash out and...

OK. I am back with news that the new card arrived and completely resolved all my problems.

I will also post this info in another thread dealing with the exact same symptoms and repairs I had previsouly made. It should be the definitive answer for that thread.

As for swapping of flash IC's, I am going to dive into that very soon.

    tw2005
I thought I would update you, I received my shipments late yesterday, one was ok and the other turned out to be a case full of HOT WHEELS. Now I am in the process of sending the HOT WHEELS to the right buyer and he is sending my boards to me.

It was an honest mistake, the seller has refunded both buyers for the postage and trouble for shipping. Looks like I can;t start anything until Saturday or this coming Monday 28-Apr-2014.

I'm a good sport and gotya, you may have a point. Less than top quality may not be worth the expense of calibration.

I found a never opened new in box 65 inch KURO for just over $3,500.00 locally on Craigslist, too bad I don't have the pocket change for it. Would make a great computer monitor. :-)...

Oh no, I haven't given up on swapping chips (sorry I left that thought). I just want to insure that the TV is working to correct standards. Sadly, or fortunately I am ONE OF THOSE CRITICAL VIDEO BUFFS.

Once I know my troubles are fixed, with the new board on wednesday, I will remove the new board and put in the board we have discussed with the swapped IC's. I would do this now but I am still watching my shows in 2D -> 3D simulation and I am also taking a little time to think this through.

I am 100% with you on this. That is why I have the correct board coming in for my tv make, and model on 23-apr-2014. The worst that could happen with the new board (assuming it works perfectly as stated by seller) is I may need to re-calibrate.

If it does require calibration I am going to see if I can get it done using ISF technology. Now that I am dabbling into TV's again this is looking more and more like a worthwhile self supporting hobby. AN EXCUSE TO RE_BUILD MY ELECTRONICS SHOP AGAIN. I have...

  • Re: HELP PLS! Anyone repaired a Panasonic Viera TV?

I understand about data copy, RE: my models service manual there is a board replacement copy but I suspect it only copies svc mode, hotel, and user settings (not any set specific non changeable data). The replacement copy process requires a password and a file specifically named "boardreplacement.pwd" be created on the SD memory card used.

The board I used as a replacement is from a 65 inch Panasonic model number TC-65PST34 with suffix of "AH". My TV is a model TC-P42ST30 uses...

  • Re: HELP PLS! Anyone repaired a Panasonic Viera TV?

Thank you tom66, I suspected this might be a problem (why I mentioned it). Lcky for me the mismatched board was picked up for a very small amt of money. I have done SMT replacement before and this will be a good project to prepare for the next time my main board goes south.

I have a chance to pick up boards and parts for a complete TV inexpensively. What I do not use will be placed in the needed later box if I get all the boards (causing me to reconsider a bit). We get a lot of lightning in Tampa, Fl and I would...

  • HELP PLS! Anyone repaired a Panasonic Viera TV?

Specifically I am looking for help getting my set working again.

If you have ever replaced a main board, did you run into problems after the fact?

Has anyone used a main board with the same board part number from a different size TV to fix yours?

What should one do when they can not copy the firmware setting from their old main board to load into a new board? I assume the service mode settings are also carried over in a setting copy. Where can I get a copy of the service mode settings for my TV model TC-P42ST30?

    Probably have more questions...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

It's a sad but JOYFUL day at my house! I joined the group.

I'll explain but first a little about myself, I have taken courses in electronics engineering technology about 35 years back. Since then I have also became an Amature Radio Licensee holding an extra class license (highest class available). I know enough about electronics to get myself into trouble if I am not very cautious with diagnosis. I do not feel I am in any way an electronics technician (too much time has passed since study) and much of what I learned...

  • Re: Help with Panasonic TC-P42ST30 After Power Surge

Now that I am re-thinking things I am begining to think calibration is not the problem. Anyone have any thoughts that might lead me in the right direction?

The picture improves dramatically (85~90% good with hints of wash out while dark areas have become lighter) when I place a program into 2D to 3D translation.

I have the exact same model of TV as the OP, a Panasonic TC-P42ST30. Self check test of the TV all report back good for areas tested on the main board. Service Mode test screens look almost...
