Re: Insignia NS-32D511NA15 intermittent video on powerup
I'm trying to remove the edge strips on the BACKSIDE of the TV. There are three pieces: two partial strips on either side and one strip on top of the TV. This is not the front bezel, but rather the upper edge strips on the back of the TV. Although I have removed the single screws holding either side strip and the four screws holding the top edge, the entire structure is VERY reluctant to remove, as if the black plastic strips are taped or glued. It's very likely that the two side strips interlock with the top strip. This is...

Re: Insignia NS-32D511NA15 intermittent video on powerup
I put a flashlight up to the dark screen, and found there is an image being played. So does this indicate the backlight is intermittent? There is a good picture on this screen, but it isn't reliable. Is a sensor cutting out the backlight's power from inverter?Last edited by binsonk; 07-14-2021, 12:49 PM.

Insignia NS-32D511NA15 intermittent video on powerup
This 2014 32-inch Insignia LCD TV has intermittent video, while audio seems to be okay. The first powerup the TV often behaves fairly normally, but if I turn it off then turn it back on, the video blinks on and off. Sometimes the video keeps blinking, sometimes the video finally comes on and stays on, and sometimes the video stops blinking and remains black. It's possible to try another powerup and get a steady picture, after the red standby light blinks 3 or 4 times. Is this problem a T-con problem or a main board problem?

Magnavox 15MF400T/37 remote control code
I use Philips universal remote controls, exclusively. I have never found the Philips-Magnavox universal remote control code for the Magnavox 15" LCD TV. It was sold just a few months before broadcast TV went digital, and it has an analog tuner. That's not the problem. I have a whole assortment of P-M universal remote controls, but none of the listed codes operate this little TV. I have taken up this task many times before, and I remember a few facts from previous attempts. This Tv may actually respond to code for another brand. I'm fairly sure the IR sensor is working. I just looked up the...

LG 55LA6900 cracked display, no image
Greetings,
I picked up this LG 55LA6900-UD 55-inch LCD TV from curbside pickup. It's in good condition except the display is seriously cracked. When powered up, the backlight is good, but when I press Settings, there is no image or change in the display at all. I'm not a big fan of large screen Tvs, but that might be because I have never owned one, or been inclined to shell out for one. This one originally sold for $2000 MSRP when it was manufactured Sept 2013, but I saw an old Best Buy listing for $500. I am wondering how much trouble it would be to order the huge display and get it delivered...Last edited by binsonk; 08-31-2016, 01:10 AM.

Re: Does Android 5.1 Lollipop support audio output in mono?
If Google/Android coders ever needed a good reason to implement Mono Audio Output, they just got one. California just made it illegal to drive with both earbuds inserted. Only a single inserted earbud is permissible while driving a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. For reasons of safety, one ear must be left open to hear the external environment.

Does Android 5.1 Lollipop support audio output in mono?
Does Android 5.1 Lollipop support audio output in mono? I prefer to hear music in mono, and this goes for the earbuds/earphones as well as the loudspeaker(s). In KitKat 4.4.2 this setting found in General Settings under Accessibility.
Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing > Audio type > Stereo/Mono
On my KitKat phone the section named "Hearing" is very inconspicuous (easily overlooked) because the font is in light blue.
If you have a Lollipop phone, would you please check your phone for this setting, and let me know your finding....Last edited by binsonk; 10-21-2015, 09:16 PM.

Re: Please recommend smartphone, $120 to $200 range
I'm wondering about the BoomSound enhancement feature on the HTC Desire 610 and 620. I know the the Desire 610 has two speakers, one above, one below the screen. I'm pretty sure the BoomSound feature applies here, as well as a normal mode with BoomSound turned off. My question is, can BoomSound be set to mono, and the same question of the normal mode with BoomSound turned off? A second line of inquiry concerns the speaker(s) on Desire 620. Does this phone have just one media speaker, the one below the screen? Does the single speaker...

Please recommend smartphone, $120 to $200 range
I'm looking for a replacement smartphone that is priced in the range of $120 to $200, give or take $20. I require front-firing speaker(s) and LTE speed on T-Mobile network. My current phone has a 4.7" screen. Now I'm looking for 5.0" - 5.5". I'm not particularly thrilled with Lollipop because of its restrictions on SD data, so I can accept KitKat 4.4.2+ as the version of Android, or Android with an option to upgrade to Android Mushroom or M.
I've already selected two possible solutions:
1. Motorola Moto G 3rd-gen 2015 (16gb SSD / 2gb ram)
pro: upgradeable...

Re: How to switch off keyboard auto-repeat Android 4.1.1 netbook
I can't find anything wrong with this scissor hinge. Any chance it is installed upside down or upper and lower end reversed? Is that possible? Peeking under the adjacent key, both seem to be configured the same way. I'm going to put the cap back on soon, so if you have any comment or suggestion, make it soon.
I have to think, that cup is a closed bubble, the way it bounces back. The word cup suggests it is not a bubble, though. This is the third or fourth time I have had the cap off, so I don't expect...Last edited by binsonk; 09-08-2015, 09:02 PM.

Re: How to switch off keyboard auto-repeat Android 4.1.1 netbook
I removed the top cap, to expose the white plastic underneath. For two days I pressed the key in an attempt to fatigue it. As I recall the white plastic was not removable. Do you know how it can be removed? Does it snap out? Opinion: If I break the keyboard, I might as well throw the netbook away. I don't even know the mechanism of this key, not that I haven't asked. Is it a pressure pad? Suppose I do remove the white plastic, and discover the key is indeed defective. I don't have a replacement. I'll say this: Pressing...Last edited by binsonk; 09-08-2015, 07:51 PM.

Okay, absent any responses, I'm also looking for recommendations of Android forums that could help me with this issue, particularly the possible solution of switching off auto-repeat.Last edited by binsonk; 09-08-2015, 04:14 PM.

How to switch off keyboard auto-repeat Android 4.1.1 netbook
I have rooted this iCraig CLP285 netbook, running JellyBean 4.1.1, kernel 3.0.8, keyboard & touchpad operation. It works great. Only one problem, a defective key, the letter T. Pressing T produces 2 or 3 T's. The key is not stuck, it's just super-sensitive. The only good solution is to switch off auto-repeat for the keyboard letter T. Easy enough in Linux, but this is Android. Here is the source documentation for keyboard in Android:

Of course, I would like to change this...Last edited by binsonk; 09-07-2015, 05:38 PM.

Re: Zotac mainboard needs PSU with 8-pin mobo connector
I drilled 4 holes in the sides of heatsink, 2 holes either side, and tied the fan to it with solid wire, positioned as shown in previous pics. I am happy to report the GPU heatsink is just warm (~105*F), and not hot at all. I'm glad I didn't give up on this motherboard. Thanks for your help and encouragement.

Re: Zotac mainboard needs PSU with 8-pin mobo connector
After 10 minutes running, BIOS reports CPU Temp as 20*C (68*F), System Temp as 38*C (100*F), holding steady.
EDIT: After 20 minutes running, the heatsink is now too hot touch and hold. What temperature is that, around 125*F? BIOS is reporting System Temp as 40*C / 104*F.
I restarted the computer and just laid the spinning fan on top of the heatsink to cool it. Gonna check the temp after 30 minutes.
With the fan on the heatsink, the metal is warm to the touch, but not hot. What temperature...Last edited by binsonk; 09-06-2015, 07:57 PM.
