Re: Samsung UN40F5500AF No back light
Update:
Removed the 4E Diodes and reinstalled the repaired strips and they worked!
They must be part of a protection circuit.
Putting it back together!

Re: Samsung UN40F5500AF No back light
Thanks for the reply.
It appears we both were using the same resources
The 4E may be the correct device.
But the 2F is also an SOD 123 package so that is where I have the problem.
I also had a reply stating that the device is not a zener diode but I think it might be.
It has to be a diode, it is not a fuse, a resistor or active component.Last edited by ny_jets_head; 12-26-2016, 11:20 AM.

Re: Samsung UN40F5500AF No back light
OK LEDS are installed but I'm still having trouble identifying the components on the end of the strip that are burned.
I also feel I should replace both devices, the first one is marked with 2F
the second one is connected to the other in series is marked with 4E
Photo show the two.
ThanksRe: Samsung UN40F5500AF No back light

Thanks will check that out as well.
I have a flat iron I use to remove and replace them, works well.

Thanks!
I will check them out and compare to the existing LED

Re: Samsung UN40F5500AF No back light
I put this TV a side and now have time to fix it.
Please help me identify exactly what this component is so I can order it.
What is the device you used to replace the 4E D8 SMD device located at the top of the LED strip. as show in the previous post

Also:
Are the LEDs 3.3 Volt? does anyone have a part number for them
I need to replace a few of them as well thanks!Re: Samsung UN40F5500AF No back light

Re: Vizio E470i-A0 Question
Not the issue. The connector PCB was fine.
The bottom row left side was causing the the problem with shutdown.
After I replaced that strip it fired up and I still had an issue.
I tested the suspect Left strips with a 20V power supply, the bottom left was completely dead. You can test the Left sides with a 20V supply but it's not enough to fire the whole strip. My guess is you can get the entire strip to fire if you have a supply that can bring 40 or 50 VDC to the entire strip.
The right side...

Re: Vizio E470i-A0 Question
I guess we will see.. I have to disassemble the panel in any case so I might as well put in a working parts.
I will check out the old connector and see if it's bad.. I assume it's possibly open.

Re: Vizio E470i-A0 Question
I got lucky today and found a junk LG unit that has the same panel (almost.)
I connected the panel to the Vizio and the backlight works proving the problem is with the LED array.
The back plate is not the same, IE mounting points, so I plan on using the LG's backlight parts in the Vizios panel
There are no voltages marked on the PS board for the backlights.
I will post the working voltages when I get the panel fixed.

Re: Vizio E470i-A0 Question
I'll try to get that if I can get it to stay on long enough.
What should I expect

Vizio E470i-A0 Question
Is there anyway to check the LED array without disassembling it.
I have aprox 130 v on the v outs when they are not on. I assume this is because the connection is open to the PS
It works sometimes for a while and then it quits.
Has anyone found a connection issue inside causing this?
Thanks!

Re: Samsung UN40F5500AF No back light
Thanks! I did read it and checked out all the stuff posted as well, the assistance here is fabulous!
Well after determining that it must be the panel, I cracked it open and yes I have two bad LED's both in the same location but on different strips.
Also taken out on the strip is what I think based on the markings on the SMD Its a 3V Zener diode based on my research.
The markings are 4E D8 its a SOD 123 device. (pic included) If I'm wrong here please let me know...

Re: Samsung UN40F5500AF No back light
Thanks to all for the suggestions!
I checked the diodes and they are fine.
My fluke has a good battery in it so the voltages readings are accurate.
I'm going to open up the panel I suspect that is where the problem lies
The voltages read the same with the panel disconnected. Based on the threads I have read the circuit must be looking for a load from the LEDs
Besides the obvious burned out LED has anyone found out what voltage and where you power the individual...

Samsung UN40F5500AF No back light
Everything else works.
I have heard that the LEDs blow and cause this.
I checked the power supply and found that the voltages for the LED'S on the caps 9218 and 9118 are bouncing around from 306 to 290V on my VOM which is strange. This sound like an issue exists on the PS board
Looking for advise before I crack the walnut open to check the LEDs themselves
Thanks...

Re: Vizio VF552XVT, audio, but no backlighting
I have the same set and slightly different back-light issue:
The top part of the screen back light is not on as well the bottom is on but flashes when cold and then stops after it warms up.
There is a red led that flashes
The set functions fine otherwise.
On the LED driver board I have the following off the D442 devices
Drain, Gate, Source
Q4 24.1, 1.0, 0
Q5 24.1, 1.0, 0
Q11 24.2, 1.7 ,0
Q12 24.2, 1.7 ,0
Q212...

Hope it all worked out for you

Re: Vizio M3D420SR Dead
Update:
Sent the mainboard for repair to an ebay vendor and he could not fix it.
It appears this is a very common issue and new mainboards are impossible to find as well as working used versions.
I will try a bit longer to get one but I may end up tossing this one back in the junk pile.
