• Re: Vizio E550i-B2E How did I fix this?

If your having an LED backlight problem with Vizio models such as - that use a separate led driver board - you'd be well served to heed advise from freakaftr8. I have found the same issue as he. The connector from the power board to the led driver board has bad (aka "cold") solder joints under the power board side. Even if your particular issue is different, suggest you check as it is only a matter of time before this problem will also cause backlight failure.

Sorry about not snapping pics when I had it apart. I should have thought of that before I returned it to the owner. If it helps others, the two bad caps are CrapXon 470ufd @25vdc electrolytics closest to the transformer nearest the edge of the power supply board. They're a good distance from any of ther others and will test good - in circuit - with an ESR meter. They are not in parallel !! I replaced them with 680ufd @ 25vdc Nichicon's which were taller and left extra lead so I could bend them over slightly to fit in the same...

  • Dell E177fpv Caps and Ribbon Cable

    Dell E177fpv ...

The monitor would come on but go off quickly. The two 470ufd 25vdc caps in the inverter circuit were bad, but I had to remove them to test as, in circuit, the ESR meter showed good, probably due to a parallel circuit.

Anyway, the monitor now works great, but I could not figure out how to remove the Ribbon Cable from the LCD side. I finally wound up removing it from the video board side, which was a pain. I must have wasted an hour between trying to figure out how the remove it from the panel side and then replacing it back on the video board.

  • Toshiba A135 Laptop problem

    Toshiba A135 Laptop

    Symptoms:
Starts, but will not post. Both the Hard Drive and Optical Drive lights remain on, but no action on either. Battery will charge and will also exhibit same as above on AC power with Battery removed. The cooling fan runs and the CPU gradually gets hot.

Found one of the Power Rails with NO voltage at the output of its associated inductor. It is the rail being driven from an ISL6269ACRZ Controller, which in turn drives the Mosfets (a 4800 and 6690AS). I'm not sure what the voltage should be, nor what this rail feeds – could be 1.05...
