Re: Panisonic 42inch TCP42S30 not working!!
Start on slide 50 in the pdf. You will be able to determine where the problem is coming from. That's about as far as i can take you, unless you happen to have the same problem I had (as poorly documented in this old thread.) There are a lot of helpful people on this forum. Once you get past the first troubleshooting you can further search the forum to see if answers are already there, and start a new thread if you can't find any answers.

Re: TC-P42S30 Shorted SN board TNPA5349 - troubleshooting advice?
Thanks Alastair, the SN board is shorted 100% certain. (This is combined SC/SD/SU on this model) I am a novice and do not know how to locate where the short is. The normal culprits, (IGBT's, 2 diodes, and 4 resistors) appear to be fine. IF i'm testing them properly.
I did have a problem with the trace pad on one, but I believe I've gotten it back in circuit properly.
I suppose I just don't know how to locate the short and could use any advice to help me figure it out.
I'll upload a pic of the board...

Most likely the SN board, disconnect the plug at SN2 (board on the left side) and check between the pins on the SN2 plug for a short to verify.
Here is a troubleshooting manual for this model:

TC-P42S30 Shorted SN board TNPA5349 - troubleshooting advice?
Back again... made it almost two years since the last repair. (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=30442) Have had plenty of beers in your honor since then, tw2005, if you're paying attention.
Can't find another SN board and I really want this plasma to last another ten years, but I'll be damned if I haven't killed this board.
Started with a solid red LED after the set quit working and when I hit the power button it turned to 14 blinks. Immediately took the set apart and found a short on VSUS. SN2 shows dead short. Lifted the legs on the four...

Re: Panisonic 42inch TCP42S30 not working!!
Removed the 4 30F131's and the short has disappeared.... already ordered a pack of 10 for 13 bucks... might as well keep some on hand. For the life of me, I can't remember how to test these four to see if one or more is still good. Toshiba has removed their diagram showing the configuration of the pins, so I don't even know which is source and which is drain. If anyone could give me a quick reminder of how to test them, I will - otherwise, just going to install four new ones.
Perhaps they stopped manufacturing these... I...

Re: Panisonic 42inch TCP42S30 not working!!
Time to revive this old bugger.
Panasonic took another crap, and I don't want to buy another one just yet, though I'm very tempted. Had a chance to re-read this thread, and I'd forgotten what a journey this last repair was.... but I'm back again to see if I can get a few more years out of this set.
Luckily found a training manual still on my computer to get me through the first steps. Once again, narrowed it to VSUS short coming from the SC board.... My guess is that I'm experiencing the same problem once again....

Re: Panisonic 42inch TCP42S30 not working!!
Here it is.... When I get to Australia I'll have to stop by and buy you a beer or two...Many many thanks, and I hope others will be able to follow this thread.
Word of advice to other novices: label all the screws when you take off the back of the set... tape them to a piece of paper and write the label name next to them.... I used packing tape, and just pushed the screws through the paper when I was ready for them. Made putting it back together after these two weeks VERY easy.
What an unbelievable journey......Last edited by Hok; 04-25-2014, 06:54 AM.

i'm guessing that's a symptom of bad ribbon cable connections?

Can't believe we've made it this far, and there is no way I would have been able to do this without badcaps and you, TW... and Glitcher, and Hombre for turning me on to those DG302's

I feel like a dolt. Went through for the THIRD time to check all the soldering that I did and found a poor connection on one of the DG302's. Resoldered and now the TV turns on gets a display etc.
However, there are thin black horizontal lines across the display in several sections of the panel.
If it isn't one thing, it's another.

Re: Panisonic 42inch TCP42S30 not working!!
getting a short with both polarities on the led, can't get it to light up.... this mm may not provide enough voltage?

Re: Panisonic 42inch TCP42S30 not working!!
the panel does not light up for long enough to give a normal display... It seems as though as soon as the screen flashes up it trips something and goes dark to SOS6. About 1 second or a little less.
So it does get a full screen of gray/black with backlight before it goes into SOS modeLast edited by Hok; 04-25-2014, 05:16 AM.

Re: Panisonic 42inch TCP42S30 not working!!
i'm guessing the led on SN board is D583, and it does not light up. Tried to power up several times focusing on different sections of the board, never found a green led to light up
