Re: HP DV2945SE POST failure
Thanks a lot for the suggestion!
I gave a reflow a shot (this is the second time for this laptop), and it worked like a charm!

Re: HP DV2945SE POST failure
I tested with an external display, and I didn't get an image on the laptop monitor or the external monitor.
Would a faulty GPU cause a failure to POST?

Re: HP DV2945SE POST failure
You're right, there could be a problem with the GPU. I think I've tried the external display approach before. I'll give it another go when I get home.
I don't think the GPU is the problem here, though. I would still expect an audible alert if I tried to boot without RAM, and I'm not getting that.

History:
I replaced the motherboard button battery, and afterward the unit wouldn't boot. I tried removing and replacing the RAM modules,...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi, everyone! I had an iMac that wouldn't turn on after I moved back from Hawaii, and I decided to get stubborn with it.
Apparently I'm not the only one with a dead iMac. I consider that a good thing.
Anyway, I'm in school now for nuclear engineering, and I think taking electronics repair as a hobby could be of value to me.
I've already done a few electronics fixes, but right now I'm at the stage where I look for a component that is physically damaged. It's worked surprisingly well...
