  • Re: RCA 42PA30RQ (Samsung S42AX YB09 clone) No Picture

I cannot find anything regarding the Class Action lawsuit against Samsung on the base unit...I don't care about it beyond trying to learn what happened, how it played out.

If anyone has the specifics on this, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm getting back into hifi journalism, and the whole experience seems to be the foundation for a great article. It has been quite the adventure already.

I am SO glad to find this forum. The whole bad capacitor thing helps explain so much of the troubles...

  • RCA 42PA30RQ (Samsung S42AX YB09 clone) No Picture

    Hello folks,

I read through the forum postings while diagnosing this set, but had a wee bit o' confusion finding 207vDC and 54vDC, only realizing AFTER I'd ordered and replaced the Main control board, the power supply, and the X- & Y-mains that the new PS delivered both only for a short duration. If I didn't have my probe on the Test Points upon plugging the unit in, I'd never see that those voltages quickly decay to nothing.

So...I'm four boards into ShopJimmy.com, who've been spectacular so far...but the only improvement I've got is a series of FIVE 'on-off'...

    Is there anybody out there?!

I just looked at how this thread appears on the board...and it has a red flag.

I'm going to start a fresh thread. Sorry if I'm beyond protocol, as you can tell, I'm new here.

    Cheers!

I've got the same issue described above, in Aardvark's post.

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Good Day, folks.

My name is John Gannon, and I've been around consumer electronics since '78, professionally since '81. Grown into quite a tweak, but rarely...in that entire time...have I ever gotten down to board-level repair. Closest I've gotten is board swapping CRT projectors.

In the mid-90s, I was one of the founding members of the Imaging Science Foundation, or ISF, the trade group self-tasked with training retail stores and consumers how to calibrate video displays. Got pretty good with those...
