Winter Project of my old HP Probook 4540s.
Symptoms...
The fan was spinning really fast after a few moments of pressing the power button and there was no display.
Caps Lock Light blinking continuously and I could not turn it off without removing the battery and power supply.
Just for fun, I Fired up my programmer today and read the bios and saved it.
Then erased and Programmed the file posted of "Orig=Rom+Outimage.bin" Not thinking
That this could fix anything but...... It has Good signs of life and the pc is having the fit about...

Re: solder don't stick, new tip.
Typically, yes it is a bad idea with a high dollar tip and there should be no need to take such dramatic action.
That being said, a little 500 grit paper has taken the shine off cheap China tips for me in the past and got the solder to stick. Also I may add that the Cheap tips hit the trash when the good ones arrived in the mail!
Night and day difference!
My learning experience....

Re: Finally built the Bob Parker "Blue" ESR Meter
Blowing tracks off the PCB Wow! You had the hindsight to use special fusible link tracks! That meter was over engineered .Lol
Cool story on the magazine construction project! I bet that editor understood a lot more about your project when your kit sales took off.
Glad you have a such a good guy as Andy making up the kits for you and I feel a lot better about the longevity of my blue after reading your posts!
Thank`s for all the information Bob and thank`s again...

Re: Finally built the Bob Parker "Blue" ESR Meter
Interesting and Good call on keeping the same firmware.
I hope to never have to use the diagnostic function but my biggest fear is doing
something stupid someday and making my Blue meter a Blue brick!
Hopefully that will never happen. I can replace and repair everything but the Zilog!
Your Blue meter is so popular that I would find a replacement with no problem if needed.
You made yourself quite a good piece of test equipment! Thank`s for sharing your Meter with the wo...

Re: Chinese clone of Bob Parker Blue ESR meter
The Blue ESR meter has served me well for a long time and if anything bad ever happened to it I would not hesitate buying another just like it to replace it!
The Bob Parker version! Not some clone look alike!
Reading capacitance of a suspected cap will most of the time show good while the ESR test will show the true fault. Resistance
Thank you Bob for all your hard work!

Re: Finally built the Bob Parker "Blue" ESR Meter
Interesting
They even use the same model number as the blue. K-7204 original
To say the least,... Can you say trademark infringement?
Feel Bad for Bob to have his work stolen like this and then waved in front of his face!
Maybe I am wrong and he sold his work but I seriously doubt it!

Re: Anybody here still uses Win 7?
I`m still running Win 7 here.
The wife uses 10 because she has some software that requires it.
Win 10 is kinda like switching the brake and clutch pedal around and
trying parallel park on a hill!

Re: Finally built the Bob Parker "Blue" ESR Meter
AnaTek worked with Bob Parker to get the Blue ESR Meter assembled for sale.
I would trust anything he says because he would know!
As for ESR getting better with charge cycles,... It could happen.
I have seen old caps that have just sat around in equipment unused get better
after some time back in service. Reform I guess.
You got me playing with battery's at my desk now!
New AA alkaline 1.5 volt reads .00 on the Blue while Old almost dead ones removed from my belt...

Re: Finally built the Bob Parker "Blue" ESR Meter
Looks Good Enough to do the job jayjr !
Everybody can use it if you want. Its not to fancy but it works!
I remember typing the omega / ohm symbol was a pain for me!
The colors just looked kinda cool. I saw similar on the net and they got added at the end.
I have two printers that i use. One HP Laser Jet P1006 for cheap black and white and
a HP Office Jet Pro 8210 for color printing.
