Re: Another Westinghouse 19" monitor issue
Hey folks. It's been a couple 2-3 years and it's time again to decide on life or death for the Westinghouse 19" monitor. Since I replaced the caps last time, everything has worked out great. That was until this week.
This week we got AT&T Uverse. It's good, but for some reason the sound was really low on my tv so I was having to turn it all the way up to hear anything. Then, while I watching TV, the Emergency Broadcast System comes on and does the first loud alert and fwooom my tv goes out and I smell some...

Re: Another Westinghouse 19" monitor issue
Just as an FYI. the caps can be in there really tight and before you solder, you should measure and make sure the shielding will fit back over. I had to re-solder the largest cap because I didn't check up front. Live and learn.

Re: Another Westinghouse 19" monitor issue
Hey folks.. thanks to everyone who helped me. Two weeks and 50 bones later, my $250 tv works. I'm excited that this was something that I could prevent from going in the garbage and repair. So many cheaply made items are "disposable" and not cost effective to fix. Thanks again!!!

Re: Another Westinghouse 19" monitor issue
I didn't. Was kinda scared to plug in the power board with the blown caps. If it's ok to do then I'll check. I have a multimeter. Gonna wait til my friend comes over though in case I electrocute myself. At least then I'll have someone to hide the porn from my family so that they won't find it when they are going through my estate! hahahah

Re: Another Westinghouse 19" monitor issue
Hey eguevarae,
I have a Westinghouse SK-19H210S. It's classified by W as a LCD TV on their site.
My experience with electronics is limited to watching my buddy tinker and two labs in college. Of course I never soldered as we used those breadboards for all our projects.
Not sure which the bi caps are, but all the caps with the cylindrical form and defined (-) on them are:
All CapXon Capacitors
One 100uF 400V
One 2200uF 10V
Two 1000uF 25V
One 1000uF 10V...

Another Westinghouse 19" monitor issue
I think I have a bad capacitor on the power board, but I'm not 100% sure. I took photos of the board and of the capacitor in question. Looks to be a bulge in the top of the cap.
Any ideas on how much it would cost to have that cap replaced? I can't solder to save my life..
capacitor is a capxon 2200 microF 10v
THanks
Joe...
