• I mess things up with that COG thing which i now see is different, i am new to this but for sure i aint stupid, I am not a native english speaking person.

We have those wide data cables glued under heat and pressure connections that could be a part of oxidation, and components nearby if very lucky. Or it could be a T-con cable problem or oxidation anywhere if they used a water based solution.

Or am i very wrong?

You dont answer on the tape method, is that a bad thing if i keep it for myself?

• Yes you are probably right, but if i have some real luck (which i dont but it can happen) this could also be a easy fix if the owner for example did wash it with water that have oxidiced on COGS/board/cables under it.

If the panel had been broken from physical force i would never ever buy it.

• Ok, thanks for the info. I am new to TV repair but i do have the time to tire this thing out and i guess this is the very great reward, IF you after much work/time can get a fix.

To find this trace sounds very hard, can you measure the short from the COG lines if one puts the effort to it?

I guess this does not mean a short to ground, it could be be a short to anything really? I guess that line would differ from the others but then i probably need schematics.

Also, blocking the clock signals to get a image without lines seem to be a big no no for you guys?...

• I do believe the lines can be annoying but have only seen pictures. I can get a 5000$ TV for 200$ and i am crazy enough to take the risk as i am a repairman deep in my soul and i do often win over the defect item one way or the other.

I did see something about a drill method, i guess one need to locate the shorted component in the panel and get rid of the short. Which sounds very hard to locate, i guess it could heat up but that is a lot of screen to search.

Thanks for the reply.

• Ok i see and thanks for the info. I will buy it and hope for some luck, will report back here for others to see.

To tape the clocksides is not a real repair but should it work it is fine to use for me.

• Ok thanks for the answer. Is it possible to get it better by tape method or something else?

Also noticed you can remove some kind of circuit on the side of the panel but i dont know how this panel looks.

I am thinking to keep the TV for myself and it is really temptning as i can get it really cheap.

Is it not strange that the lines does not affect the whole panel?

Hi there all legends!

I am new to this TV repair thing but i am good at reparing Macbook and PC computers.

I am on my way to buy this 85" 2019 Sony TV and wonder if this horisontal black lines that gets more visible to the right side is a hopeless case to repair?

The screen is not physically damaged, TV has been mounted on the wall all the time....

• Re: Asus Zenbook ux31a component identification

I have forgot to do this but better late then never.

I got the backlight to work after replacing the inductor. The fault was a defective LVDS connector which shorted the backlight net to ground. So all worked after this. Thanks again Atsio for the help!

Ok, thanks again. I can send you the original pics of the mainboard if you wanted them, maybe you can pm me an e-mail adress, i could not upload them here for some reason. They are about 10Mb each in size.

Atsio could you help me out here, i am going to order the components now but I got really confused (again!) here as the burnt inductor L4510 that was seated before looks very different to the one you proposed, also i wonder if the current/voltage rating is to low on thatone considered this is the AC_Bat line which to my head should be rated higher than around 150mA/5Vdc?

Could a 120Ohm/100Mhz ferrite bead which i understand also is a inductor type component like this have been used? http://au.element14.com/taiyo-yuden/bkp1608hs121-t/ferrite-bead-0-035ohm-2-7a-0603/dp/1786262...

Can you send me the photos of the Asus Zenbook motherboard you took in large resolution (the largest you got). I collect them.

• Re: Asus Zenbook ux31a component identification

Ok, that sounds like good news then! I think i order the inductor and cap and do a temporary fix to the lvds connector and see what happens from there. I get back later with an update how things ended up!

Big thanks for all the help atsio, i would never have figured this out on my own! I gotta learn how to read those schematics.

Have checked continuity between C965H and USB, dont mind the placement of the numbers they are only used to navigate from =) Came up with this:

Continuity C965H pin 3 and usb 2
Continuity C965H pin 6 and usb 3
Continuity C965H pin 2 and usb 4

Also measured 5V at USB Pin1 with power on. Are this to any help?...

Yes, i checked continuity from pin 8-11 to the no 19v pad and they are connected so i think you spotted the right component here. There seems to be no short as of now.

No i didnt measure 12v anywhere, my point was maybe it is strange that 12v voltage was missing. But maybe its nothing strange at all with that as i am the newbie here =)

I have also looked for "C965H" with no luck. The only thing that makes me believe the schematic are right is that the model name "UX31A2 Rev 2.0" matches...

• Re: Asus Zenbook ux31a component identification

Good evening.

Thats some really good info there, thanks for that Atsio! I have removed the cap and the broken inductor as you said and checked some voltage. Seems something is wrong about those components, is also 12V missing? I dont know if that would be present at those places. The 6 pin smd reads "C965H" and the 8 pin "IC" reads "UA DY" but not really sure about thatone its hard to see.

When i order a new L4510, how do i know which one to buy? Inductance value seems to...

Here are some better pictures on both sides of the mainboard, but damn it was hard to getting decent quality of the pics =) I think the schematic is right for this mobo?...

• Asus Zenbook ux31a component identification

Hello all!

I am new here but have followed this forum for some time now. This is my first post and i was wondering if someone could help me identify the components i marked out! This is all about a Asus Zenbook ux31a bought defective. It starts up without any screen. I also attach the schematic file to this mainboard. Unfortunately i do not have the "board view" file. Is it possible to identify those marked components without the boardview? I sure cant =)

I also see that pin 10+11 on the LVDS connector have been shorted, dont know how that happened. It has...
