Re: First smd hot air soldering
Bad soldering paste is 'very' conductive, so mainly in chips that has a good heating during work, may cause several problems - if there's soldering paste under the chip, the heat will melt it and it will 'short' the chip pins.
I use soldering paste while extracting the chip, after that, I use some more only to fix the soldering over the pads. So I clean all the remain soldering paste. When I solder the chip, I don't use soldering paste(as will remain some under the chip).

Re: The Future of the Desktop PC
By here, desktops will live 'forever'.
Here we have many stores - the commercial sector in general - that have several machines and seems they will always be there - it's less costly to make a good repair than buy new ones. Laptops in these areas are only at the frontend and some offices, the real job - database, server, data manipulation is done by desktops.
So, for home users(the general user), desktops tend to disappear as we have other devices such as tablets, ipads, smartphones... that are even more 'powerful' but...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi! I'm from Brazil and found this forum while searching for motherboard repair (chip level) materials.
I'm only a hobbist but was amazed when I fixed my motherboard (ressolding the I/O Chip) and now I wanna to improve my skills in this area as in my region nearly 99% of the technicians work by parts repair, not chip level. Sure I'll have many great info here and if I can, surely will retribute.
So, a great handshake to all.
