• Re: LG 42V7 Random Sparkles

Alright got it. Yeah I have a DMM and everything, I work on electronics just not plasmas and right now I don't have my oscilliscope. Power supply is original. Nothing wrong there. We'll see what happens.

Hey, I haven't tried the Set Up/DN adjustments. Is that the one where you need to watch the wave form? If so I don't have an oscilliscope but perhaps I can get away with tweaking around and marking the original positions.

Any rough guides as to what I should do? Turn stuff up down or is it an experimentation thing?

Alright, tried removing the pads on the temp sensor. Still does it anyway. Temperature LEDs change. Is this sparkle problem normally related to the LEDs and temperature? I haven't seen too many people mention that along with the sparklng issue.

Hmm Okay, I'll give the temp sensor thing a try. I actually tried changing the thermal pad on that thinking it was a voltage regulator that was overheating. I guess the only voltage regulators are the fets.

The TV has sparkles from cold but they're not noticeable once you step a couple feet away, from what I read that can be considered normal.

    Hmm that kind of sucks.

Is there any way of updating the firmware without the use of the LG jig? Anything else I might be able to do?

How does the firmware affect the operation of this board and why does the fault end up being heat related? Would there be a way of solving this problem simply by supplying additional cooling?

  • LG 42V7 Random Sparkles

    Hello everyone,

I posted about this TV a while back and I discovered the original problem was a bad main board. After replacing it the tv started working great until it started giving me a new problem.

After around 30 minutes of use I get sparkles all over the TV screen after changing from a bright picture to a dark one. When the on screen display messages dissappear they leave a patch of sparkles where they where. From what I've read this is a classic problem with these LG plasmas.

The thing about this one is that the fault does not occurr when the back...

  • Re: LG 42PX4RVH Picture turns green

I actually reseated all the connectors on the main board yesterday. Will try doing all the ones I can find next. I don't think there's any board hiding behind the main board. I'll remove the main board to make sure, but I don't see any on the service manual either.

Today the fault behaved a little bit differently. No glitching phase this time. And it took over 2 hours for the green screen fault to appear. As usual turning the tv on and off rapidly fixed the fault and 35 minutes later I'm still waiting for the fault to reoccur. ...

Okay I went around heating the individual boards for a couple minutes but it didn't do anything. I focused on the main board but I heated all of them for at least 2 minutes or so. Was afraid to keep going any longer in case it caused some damage, hair drier is pretty hot.

I'm currently waiting for the fault to repeat. Once it does I'll prod around to see if movement causes any change. Keep in mind that the fault goes away for up to 30 minutes simply by turning the set off and back on immediately which means it's not having much time...

  • Re: lg power supply keepsblowing the internal fuse

The bridge rectifier should be mounted on a heat sink. It looks like a black rectangle orientated horizontally with 4 legs. Is usually located near where the AC line comes in.

If you're seeing sparks from a disc, as mentioned earlier, that might be a thermistor or something similar. What is the part number silk screened onto the circuit board below that part? For example "C705".

  • LG 42PX4RVH Picture turns green

    Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with an LG plasma TV. The chassis is RF-052C. Powering it from cold, after about 45 minutes the picture turns green. Sometimes the screen becomes jittery and shaky like a glitching video game before turning green. I tried both video inputs and the same thing happens on both. Currently waiting to see if the symptom is the same using over the air TV. The buttons also become unresponsive. Audio remains functioning normally throughout.

Since sometimes the buttons also stop working, I have to unplug it to power it off. Unplugging it for roughly...

    Check main rectifier.

  • Re: Philips BP2.2u Chassis Vtun overvoltage?

You know this time around I measured voltages both when the screen only partially lights up and also when it lights up fully like in the video and all voltages are much more steady this time around, only varying by about 0.1 volt at the most. Not sure why but voltages are generally stable now.

Like I said the screen lights up when I fiddle with the buttons a bit, takes a lot of presses but it eventually causes a change.

I'm not sure how to check -Vy, Vsc, and Vzbias, I'll post pictures of the boards once I can...

After fiddling around with the buttons I found that I did get a reaction, it being that now the screen fills out. Still flickers on and off but now the whole screen is full.

Below I've attached a video it's only 3MB so it;s easy to download, it's in a zip file as the forum attachments function wont allow a direct video.

Do you think you can give me a second opinion with this please? It displays a logo on the top right and appears to be displaying a menu below it. Notice the dark blotch at the top of the...

Hmm can I just ask why now you think it may not be the Y or Z boards? What of this picture makes you think these arent the symptoms relating to a bad Y or Z board and what of it makes you think it's perhaps a bad panel or control board.

Seriously hope it's not the panel!

OKay here are the pictures you ordered. Second set arent very clear but I hope they help anyway.

First is the screen showing the failure. What you see in the picture is what the screen shows intermitently. The pattern you see on screen comes off and on at the same time and rythim that the blinking light on the logic board blinks and at the same time and rythim of the pulsing sorta fridge type sound that the TV makes. It seems like it's displaying static and what looks like some kind of logo on one o the corners. The picture...

  • Re: Philips BP2.2u Chassis Vtun overvoltage?

OKay quick update, I tried testing the power supply unloaded, completley seperate from the TV. Jumping J8004 and J8003 as well as BJ8902. All three LEDs come on LED8002 and LED8001 as well as BD8903. By the training manual standards this says the PS is not deffective but I usually wouldnt just trust that.

I found out two interesting things out of all of this.

    1. Voltage fluctuations are pretty much completley gone with the exception of VSND +18V which fluctuates about 0.12V which isnt much and perhaps nothing...

  • Re: Philips BP2.2u Chassis Vtun overvoltage?

Note: I just discovered that the philips training guide says that the voltage list it has is for 42SDV4 and this is apparently 42HDV4 however that doesnt seem to make this 102V reading to be plausible as a normal thing. The thing is that on the BP2.2U service manual I cant find the Vtuner voltage listed on the power supply diagram although it is mentioned else where in the manual. Not sure what's up with that. The only tuner voltage I can find is for 5v but it's not called the same.

I currently need to find my camera charger...

  • Philips BP2.2u Chassis Vtun overvoltage?

    Hello everyone,

I'm trying to diagnose this TV with a BP2.2U chassis.

    Service manual is attached.

My symptoms on it are that it powers on with an almost completley dark screen and after a few seconds it starts flashing on certain areas, mostly towards the left with a very dark purple image and a few vertical lines. I see what looks like static in the brief moments where the screen flashes and the side controls seem to have no effect. There is also no sound. Disconnecting Y and Z boards did not make sound re-appear as suggested by this guide https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpost.php?p=210242&postcount=4...
