Thanks Selldoor, I'll check out some of these. The pics were from my phone not the best quality.

I can send pics if I can figure out how to attach it here... I saw no obvious signs of what may have crackled, but she said it was rather loud, I expected to be able to see something as soon as I got the back off....

It has been unplugged for about 2 hrs and now reads 5.28, I really have no idea what I am doing! Or even if this is worth fixing though I have had it 6 years trouble free and from what I have read about this particular tv I have been lucky. It had a great picture and sound right up till this problem occured I would buy a replacement power supply just to give it a shot, from what I have read so far it seems that is the most likely cause ( I am still researching though) Any tips would be helpful though. I have plenty of time to play with it. One problem...

Hi, this is my first post as a new member. I am not a TV tech but am skilled with a meter and can read schematics and instructions pretty well. My 50" made a loud crackling sound and powered off (according to my daughter) unfortunately I was not home. When I first tried to light it up again I got the red light, but then the steady blue. No picture no sound.
I took the back off and found no obvious burn out or pregnant caps. When the power button is first hit I hear a relay click but nothing after that. I do not have access to a service manual so at this point I am lost... Help!!

More information would be helpful. When the power button is pressed, what happens? Nothing, relay clicks?

The first thing to check would be the two fuses in the lower right corner of the power supply. You might get lucky and find one of them blown. No, it's not OK to replace it with a piece of wire.

Assuming the fuses are good, the next step is to examine the connectors on the left side and bottom. IIRC, these have labels indicating the voltage they supply. The one you are looking for one may be numbered...

Hi, I joined this forum to get some information on repairing my Phillips 50 inch plasma, or find out if it is worth the effort. I am not an electronics technician but have related experience in the appliance and air conditioning business (30 yrs) so I feel comfortable with diagnosing and can follow a schematic pretty well. I look forward to chatting with you. And I am really hoping I can get this thing up and running again. I bought it new 6 years ago and have not had a bit of trouble with it until now.

    I'm 61 years...
