Re: HP DV6 6170em - motherboard dead after liquid (cola) spill. Please help!
Might be an obvious question, but could the power switch have cola residue in it, causing a short? It would maybe cause an on/off cycle - once switched on, if you hold the power button for 5 seconds it would switch off, so if it's cycling off after 5 seconds, it's a possibility. It's happened to me before now. If the power button has a seperate board, maybe give that a clean?

Re: Toshiba c660-15g no display on screen but have display on external
Shine a torch on the laptop screen while it is switched on, preferably in a darkened room, to see if there is a faint picture there. If so, but the screen works on other laptops, then I would query the inverter board (if it's LCD) or the backlight controller chip on the motherboard.
If there's no display at all, make sure you haven't set the laptop to display to external screen only

Component Source UK
Where do all you UK based guys buy replacement components from? I'm struggling to source an A5MC-100J Thermal fuse/resistor. Farnell and RS-online have none, while DigiKey have, but are quoting £12 shipping on an £0.87 component!
I'm repairing a TNPA3911 power board and also need an RJK5020 mosfet, but these are a lot easier to come by. There is a kit available on ebay containing both for £16.99 - is this likely to be my best bet? It's annoying as I know the parts can be bought for under £6 total, but the shipping makes it not worthwhile.

Re: Advent Monza S100(?) Dead No Power
Thanks for the input Selldoor. I guessed that the S legs were all connected, as well as the D, but like I say, it's all a good learning experience for me.
Very grateful for the time spent helping me with this

Re: Advent Monza S100(?) Dead No Power
Off and on again a few times, battery is charging, have absolutely no idea. Like you say, it's annoying, as you can't say it's actually "fixed" if you don't know why it went wrong in the first place.
Incidentally, did I test the MOSFET correctly? What sort of readings should I have got? Would be nice if something useful came of this

Re: Advent Monza S100(?) Dead No Power
And I'm buggered if I have any understanding of why, but I've just pressed the power switch, and it's come on. Could something I've done earlier have unswitched the MOSFET, and by testing it I've somehow managed to reset it? Don't get me wrong, I'm made up that it's started working, but I'd like to know that a) it's not going to randomly pack up again, and b) what might have caused it in case I'm faced with something similar again

Re: Advent Monza S100(?) Dead No Power
JP8 - 19.13-19.14v either side.
My knowledge of testing MOSFETs is basic, so please bear with me. As we are looking at the picture, bottom row is Source pins 1, 2 and 3, bottom right is Gate, and top row is Drain 1-4?
Meter set to 200 ohms, -ve lead to S1, +ve lead to G closes the gate, then measure from S1 (-ve) to each of D 1-4 (+ve)? Then repeat from S2, and again from S3?
If this is all correct, every reading taken has flashed up a random number, followed by a "1" to the left, which I gather...

Green light on power brick, stays constant when plugged in.
DC IN and Button Board socket as highlighted...

Re: Advent Monza S100(?) Dead No Power
Tried with no ram, each ram, both ram. Def the right ram, not been changed since new. I've stripped it down to the bare board, cpu, and heatsink. No lights, nothing.
Brand new CMOS battery - Duracell.
Original charger, seems to be good, and tried another known good charger

Advent Monza S100(?) Dead No Power
Hi, I've been working on an Advent Monza Red (I believe it's an S100, but the only labels on the unit say "Red") with broken screen brackets. Made sure it was disconnected, battery was out, grounded myself, and set to work. Only had to disassemble the base to attach the new hinges, in and out of there in 10 minutes. Everything is connected up properly, reassembled, and now - dead.
On A/C there are no lights, no response from power switch. Removed the battery, still nothing. Tried with battery only, nothing.
I've tried removing the battery and A/C and holding...Last edited by Topher_UK; 11-07-2014, 06:00 AM.

Re: Samsung LE40R88BD blue block on right hand of screen
Tried it. Made a bit of a difference, in that it's sort of fuzzy now instead of a solid block. Used some thermal pads, cut to size, but they're a bit squishy, and might not be putting enough pressure on. But at least I know now it's a screen problem, and not the boards, and saved myself a few quid finding out. Thanks!

Re: Samsung LE40R88BD blue block on right hand of screen
Just looked up the process on YouTube. Looks interesting, and worth a try, even to get a few months out of it. The guy in the video used bits of rubber - anyone with some experience of doing this have any suggestions for other usable materials?

Samsung LE40R88BD blue block on right hand of screen
Hi, I have a Samsung LCD TV LE40R88BD, with a vertical block of blue on the right hand side of the screen. Probably takes up about an 8th of the screen, full height. I have a number of spare parts lying about, so have tried replacing the LVDS board and cable, but the fault persists. I don't have a correct AV board, and have found them quite difficult to come by, unless paying around £145 for a new one from Samsung.
The AV board number is bn94-01562A.
My question is, is the fault likely to be on the AV board, or the screen unit itself? Is there any way of testing...

Re: Sharp LC32D44E-BK Stuck in standby mode
Absolutely brilliant information here, followed the instructions to the letter, and got the TV to power on. It does have a dead bulb, but I'm not that bothered by it. If I leave C7558 bridged, what's the worst that could happen? I'm guessing it responds to the bulbs powering up, and if there's a fault, it signals to the PSU to shut down, but is there any real danger to leaving it bridged?
Chris
