I have read the post but have not started working on the board yet.
The plan is to remove the glue as best as possible with isopropyl alchohol and then test the resisters and capacitors. I'll probably post a picture of the board shortly for anyone with expert eyes to have a look at and make suggestions on what area(s) to concentrate on.
As far as the BN44-00195A vs the BN44-00173A are concerned... any idea which would be the better board (if) I ended up ordering the whole board. Is one more durable than the other? Does one fail more often...

I have a Syncmaster 245BW and the screen went dark prior to Christmas. I followed some of the instructions in this forum regarding replacing the three resisters and the blown capacitors and sure enough that fixed the problem.

Meanwhile my father has a Syncmaster 2943HM and by coincidence his monitor went dark last week with the usual blue light. I've determined that his BN44-00195A board is the culprit after substituting in my working BN44-0173A board to test it. His worked fine.
