    My first request here and new at this.
    My wife uses an an old iMac G5 which she says she cannot do without! A few days ago it had a power supply failure indicated by an audible POP! On opening the PSU I found that the switch TOP249YN had split in 2 parts with the front section spalling off from the top to about 2/3 of the way down. Could you tell me what would cause this to happen please. I have replaced the part but the board does not power up so there must be something else which has failed to cause this switch to come apart. The board fuse is intact.

    Hello from Dashnieuil. English, living in France. Found this forum whilst researching iMac G5 problems. First encountered computers in number crunching bank hardware "Project 70" may ring a few bells with some. First personal was a Sinclair ZX81 with plug in 16Kb memory which invariably fell out at a crucial point. Interest in computers was purely from a user point of view until wife's Mac went bang. So am now into desoldering and soldering PCBs - oh...
