Re: Baffeled by parallel caps in power supply

Polarity is correct, clearly marked on circuit board. Even still that would not explain why the first cap blew. This is one of those bizarre things that happens in electronics. It would help if I could see a schematic for it but I have not been able to find it. As far as a picture it wouldn't tell much. There are two parallel circuit traces where these caps attach, pos to pos, neg to neg. Electrically they are attached to the same point.

It also doesn't explain why you can remove the bad cap, leave the other in the circuit...

I am working on a Pyle 1400 power amplifier. Can't find a schematic or service info, just the operator manual which is worthless.

The problem is in the power supply board. Turned it on and a few minutes later the magic smoke was released. Opened it up and saw that one of the 4700uf 50v caps had vented. Popped it out and while looking at it I saw that electrically in parallel with this bad cap was another of the exact same value. Of course I know this doubles the capacitance for a total of 9400uf. I had a 5700uf cap 50v and thought I could substitute it so I gave it a try. It smoked...

Re: RCA Projection TV Blurry Picture

I looked around the flyback and didn't see anything obviously fried. The overall convergence is off on the entire picture. When looking at an active TV broadcast channel you can see the representations of the red, blue and green images.

I guess what I really need is a Factory Service Manual for this model (free if possible). Can anyone help me?

RCA Senium rear projection Model HD61W140 Chassis ATC311. Cannot complete auto convergence. I get a message that a sensor failed. The picture is a blur across the entire screen. I do not have a service manual. I can get to the service menu but cannot read it due to the blur. It is an old TV but had a great HD picture when operating properly, Any ideas on what to do?

Hi,
I have been fixing electronics equipment since 1974. Navy trained me to use six step troubleshooting method to get down to component level repair. Alas the world has moved beyond the need for electronics repair unless it is in the vintage area of stuff. I like to work on tube equipment and old school HiFi (pre-remote control!).
