  • Re: Cold boot when wake up from standby

Look for EuP2013 and enable it in bios (if you mb support), it should cut standby wattage to around 1W to comply with EU regulation. You may need to check if your PSU is compliant though. My setup (with the Enermax) drew about 1.4W on standby measured with kill-a-watt. You can probably cut the wattage further by only enabling necessary wake up options (i.e. WOL and power button)....

Hey guys just come back to say thank you!
Swapped with a more uptodate PSU (Antec truepower 550W), my sleep problem goes away. It is more quiet too, that old Enermax can now decommissioned.

Hibernation and SSD health doesn't mix well. Many years ago when I still use HDD, the hibernation file had a size equal to system memory. Laptop on battery could sleep then hibernate multiple times a day, I'd say never do that with SSD. Laptop should consume way lower standby power than modern ATX PSU which now required by EU regulation...

    kc8adu & Kiriakos GR:

For almost a year it used to sleep overnight and woke up by button in the morning flawlessly until one day... Wake up from long sleep will then cause cold boot and possibly data loss. Just to clarify, the system is stable enough to run 24x7 without power saving, so the wall plug/cables should be alright.

    domas:

As far as I understand, hibernation is S5 state, which is electronically equivalent to S0/shutdown. But I can give it a try... (my SSD will hate it though)

  • Cold boot when wake up from standby

My desktop system was working flawlessly until lately it starts to have sleep problem. When waking up it just cold boot (and windows report not shutdown properly), I can see the power LED went off then relight as the power come back. Apparently short sleep (less than 15 or 30min) is still fine, but overnight is 90% cold boot. Apart from that my system is running perfectly fine.

What could be the cause, motherboard or PSU? I probably lack soldering skill to fix it myself, so will just buy a replacement. Thanks for reading my post.

    Here is my system configuration:...
