by ZarithyaHi all,
I have a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen that stopped booting after a failed BIOS update. There is no life from the machine when the power button is pressed, but when the charger is plugged in, the amber charging indicator turns on and the power button blinks three times. The battery does charge, eventually turning the amber light white. I've dumped the BIOS and tried to fix it (but I don't know what I'm doing or how to use Lenovo's update files in this way) and even attempted to overwrite it with other uploads I've found here to no avail. I've posted the dump in the request forum and... -
by TheLynx74Hi,
I'm setting up a Surface Pro 3 for a friend, I've been able to install the latest version of Windows 10.
On bootup it shows a red background and the Surface logo, it still boots ok into windows and he can logon.
I tried to go into the BIOS/UEFI and it asks for a password. My friend doesn't know the password, I can press enter and get limited access.
Can you please help me with the steps to recover the password so can turn on TPM and Secure boot?
Thanks-

by petabyteAs this is a brand new forum, I thought I'd open up a thread to encourage new members to introduce themselves a bit.. now hey.. let's not get too personal.. ok ?
And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread \"clean\" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast
So I'll start things off :
My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie.
I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.....

I have made two dumps of this bios, with the bios chip removed from the board and the hashes match on both dumps, but I cannot find the DMI information in the dumps except for the Windows product key, so I think it is corrupted. I have downloaded two bios updates from the Lenovo support site, but they contain small .PAT file, and 4 subfolders containing .FL1 and .FL2 files, which I don't understand enough to figure out how to use to fix my dump.
The problem with the laptop is that...-
