Testing and ESD Strap?

I bought 3 ESD straps, they were cheap and so I thought, well I'm going to test it. I put my multimeter to continuity, put one probe on the clamp of the ESD and touched the plate on the band side, no sound and no change on the meter. I know my meter is good and all 3 bands do this under the test.

Am I correct in that all 3 of these straps are bad or am I missing something?

ESD straps have a megohm or more resistance by design.

Set your multimeter to a higher resistance range.

Thank you, I'm pretty new to electronics and really appreciate the reply. All 3 ESDs measure at about 990 resistance.

As a scientist, the warning to you: make sure you get your units right. 990 ohms sounds too low, 990 K ohms is probably what you read.
