Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello I am a retired Truck Transport Diesel and Refrigeration Technician and maintenance manager who build and wired my own house. I did keep our 2 way motorola vehicle mounted radios working by cannibalizing parts from others and or installing new sub assembly parts. Have kept burnt circuit boards in trucks and reefers going by soldering in a jumper across burnt area when applicable after initial reason it burnt corrected.
I am currently trying to revive a Magnavox 42MF439B/F7 LED that comes on blinks green light beween 21 and 23 times and stays lite. I has no picture but sound works. Fuse is good and low voltage is going to 2nd control board although I havnt tested actual voltage. If I unplug second board from power board then the TV will power on but right back off. With this in mind I am thinking power board ok, All Caps look good not swelled or leaking but again havnt put meter to them. Hence is why I wanted to join this site to learn and hopefully contribute . Thanks -Ohh PS I have 5 daughters and 10 grandkids. Which I say 5X5 meaning 5 Grandsons and 5 Granddaughters. Sorry for bing Long Winded.

        Hello everyone!

I stumbled across this website while researching to fixes to a couple of TVs that have had some issues. Upon reading and browsing other areas of the site I realized the wealth of knowledge over here is astounding.

I've grown up on computers and actually paid part of my way through college repairing and building PCs. I won't bore you guys with details but I'm excited to learn some new things and develop some knowledge.

Hello. Raimu from Finland. Gosh, over ten years ago I got my papers in electronics. Haven't done much with 'em since, but recently I've noticed my interest rekindling.

Thank you for even having this helpful forum. Google served this site well. Hobby of fixing things myself mostly because can't afford repairman and was electronic tech or drive ability tech for dodge for 14 years so have good overall understanding of electronics as a whole. Well enough for home
Electronics to have fixed a couple mitsubishis and washer and dryer and fridge etc. Sometimes it's cheaper to pay the professional but usually that's after I exhaust my own intelligent or lack there of options. Thanks again guys gonna read up on a 47" lg I bought for 40 bucks that turns on and then off. You guys rock

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread \"clean\" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said \"w00t.. they have a forum\"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..
Hi my name is Darrell I also love to tinker but I am not that bright. just very curious. I also repair computers mostly viruses and the like. So I will mostly be trying to sponge off of the smart guys.

Hiya I'm DFKMT. I've joined this sight as I have a problem with a TV and to be honest I don't know much about repairing it or if it can be repaired. I have some knowledge about PCs and laptops as I've been building and fixing them for a long time. Hopefully I will learn some new stuff on this sight and I'm sure I will.
