Hey everyone, figured I should finally register instead of just lurking.

I'm a hardware tinkerer who hates seeing good electronics go to the e-waste bin. Lately I've been getting more into board-level repairs, micro-soldering, and trying to revive dead laptops and consoles.

I actually found my way here while searching for a clean ME BIOS dump for a stubborn Acer motherboard I'm currently working on. It seems like a great community with some incredibly smart people, so I decided to officially join.

Always looking to learn more about component-level troubleshooting from you guys, and hopefully I can share some successful repairs of my own down the road.

Hey There,

My name is Adam and I live in Australia.

I've always loved electronics, fixing, breaking, and 'enhancing' them (well, they break when I have done this...).
My first computer was a Commodore 64, bloody loved it! Then I went on to an Amiga 500, then Amiga 2000, then to an Amiga 1200, hands down the best computers for the time. Preemptive Multitasking in 128k of RAM, I feel like developers are spoilt these days, inefficient code, well, just throw more resources at it!

I've joined so I can get advice, access board views, and try and learn more!

Equipment I use and have;

- Quick 861DW Hot Air Station
- Duratech temperature adjustable soldering Iron
- Rigol DS1054Z Scope
- About 5 multimeters....
- Logic analyser, cheapo from Amazon but it does an of job for my purposes

I also have a rather large collection of ESP boards, sensors, and everything that goes along with them, There are about 6 or 7 Arduinos floating around, I just purchased a few STM32F103C8T6 boards to have a play with a well.

I'm doing a lot with Home Assistant and ESPHome to create my own custom sensors and controllers too. And a million other ideas I have,

Finally I have a Bambu P1S with 4 slot AMS as well, I want to learn how to use CAD to build my own custom enclosures but having a 5 year old makes that tricky at times!

Hi everyone,

I currently work in IT support.

My formal education is in international accounting—not exactly the most obvious route into motherboard repair—but technology has always been the more persistent interest. I previously worked in IT and electronics support in London. These days, I look after Windows computers, servers, networks, Wi-Fi, printers, deployment systems, and whichever device decides to become “interesting” five minutes before a lesson.

I enjoy troubleshooting and understanding why something failed instead of simply replacing it. My experience is mainly in IT operations and hardware support rather than board-level electronics, so I joined Badcaps to learn more about BIOS firmware, SPI flash chips, programmers, dumps, and motherboard diagnostics.

I found the forum while researching a BIOS and firmware issue involving several identical systems. There appears to be a great deal of practical knowledge here, and I hope to learn from it and share useful findings from my own work when I can.

So that is the short version. Nice to meet you all—and hopefully, I will bring more working computers than dead motherboards.
