Hi All,
I'm Retrac! Just starting out in the repair business for a bit of side money and this forum seems like the place to be for advice and schematics.
Thanks for all you guys do to build the communityComment

I am a student in Ottawa in Physics, and I have an interest in computers. I am looking to slowly repair the refurbished hardware I found on the streets, and giving them new purpose in being servers for menial tasks/upgrading my current setups.
I notice a lack of anything on HP Dragonfly laptops, so I am hoping to clear some stuff up for my personal gain
I hope my questions can be useful to others in the future!Comment

Wow it only took 20 years for these introductions to get pretty thin. Not complaining as I was getting a little nervous reading all the details the guys shared about themselves back in '06. So...Im new and more than one of my projects have led me here so seems like a no brainer to get involved.Comment

hello, glad to subscribe to this forum. I am an enthusiast who likes to learn about everything, and lately I am interested in learning about circuits and board repair. I don't have much knowledge, but if I burn something, it won't be a big deal since they are unimportant boards.Comment

Hello everyone! I've decided to join this wonderful community. I discovered the forum while looking into WiFi issues with the MacBook Pro A1708.
Looking forward to the discussions here — I think it'll be a great way to have some fun while learning more about computer hardware and improving my skills.

Hi everyone,
I’m Harry — aka The Device Doctor.
I’ve been repairing electronics for a few years, with a particular soft spot for retro computers, vintage gaming consoles, and anything that smells faintly of warm dust and 1980s silicon. From ZX81s and Spectrums to PlayStations and modern boards with questionable capacitor choices, I enjoy diagnosing faults down to the component level rather than just swapping whole boards.
Most of my work involves:- Capacitor diagnosis and replacement (of course!)
- Power supply fault finding
- Voltage regulator upgrades (linear to switch-mode conversions, where appropriate)
- RAM / ROM troubleshooting
- PCB trace repair and light rework
- Bringing “dead” systems back from the brink
I’m comfortable with schematics, oscilloscopes, logic analysis, and good old-fashioned signal tracing. I also document a lot of my repairs as part of my ongoing restoration projects.
I’ve been lurking for a while — the depth of knowledge here is incredible — so I figured it was time to properly introduce myself and contribute where I can.
Looking forward to learning, sharing, and saving more hardware from the scrap pile.
Cheers,
Harry
The Device Doctor
