    "universal mainboards" for TVs?

I've heard about "universal main boards" for TVs, is there such a thing and perhaps I can adapt one of these to a TV with a bad main board?

I suspect most of these "universal main boards" are for LED TVs so I'd have to convert it for CCFL which probably means I'm keeping the old PSU. But will the existing tcon take the signal from one of these "universal" boards if they exist?

Searching ali points to such thing but I don't know if these really work or not...

Incidentally I have a RCA TV's mainboard, wonder what the chances are of getting it to work with a Sony TV, and no I don't care if I have to cut more holes in the back panel, as long as I can use the TV once more

I don't know anything about them but I have seen them for sale on Aliexpress so they do exist.

i might search the panel number and see which tv.s it was used in . it might not be exclusive to sony .. i know sony dont hand out training manuals unless you repair under licence . unless things have changed these days .. i do actually have lots of old paper manuals for sony that i acquired years ago all from before flat screen tv.s .

Yeah... just wonder what is expected to be able to use these so-called "universal" boards, and who knows, it may add "smart" tv functionality to the old TV too...

The sony's panel is made by Samsung, so I suspect it's also a Samsung TCon that works with the Sony mainboard... so there's definitely some mixing matching going on here.

first have to understand how it works then it becomes easier . same with anything i suppose . televisions or idiots lanterns as i call them are white man's magic .. most of them must basically work in a similar fashion .

Pretty much every cheap TV brand is using "universal" boards.
How to program them or what adapters to use you have to figure out by yourself.
Backlights are limited to specific configuration.

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
              by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

              Sony xbr-65x900c main board issues?
              by jb_Bak
Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:
Power Board Connector that goes to Main board
              CN6401
              Pin 01 NC
              Pin 02 NC
              Pin 03 "BL_ON": 0V
              Pin 04 "N/C"
              Pin 05 "STBY 3.3V": 3.5V
              Pin 06 "GND": N/C
              Pin 07 "AC_OFF"...

Sony RB2G Chassis KDL-55W815B MAIN BOARD 2 Blink Error issue resolved! Happy days :)
              by cheeky2
For anyone interested just repaired this Sony Main board TV that had a 2 blink error code, the chassis is a RB2G which is common to quite a few different Sony models. The Ceramic 10uF 25V X7R 1206 capacitor C9114 was shorted which took the smd 2A 0603 fuse out F9101. This was powering the Buck converter TPS54332 which caused no 5V output from it.
See the attached picture of the locations of both components. I also attach the best service manual I found for this board for anyone else in a similar position of trying to repair this main board. It's not specific to the TV model however it gives...

Is it possible to upgrade from a Vestel 17MB97 main board to a 17MB110 Main board?
              by cheeky2
I suppose the real question is whether the existing pinouts from ether a 17IPS71 psu are cross compatible with a 17IPS12 psu? If they are then the exchange of the main boards should have no issues providing the screen is compatible with both main boards. Obviously you can change the screen configurations easily enough (providing you have the correct files) for the main board. Why may you ask would I do this? Well a lot of the smart features are no longer working on a Hitachi 48HBT62U main board I wish to give it a new lease of life!
Obviously the same LVDS connector for the screen connection...
