    Re: Samsung 50" Plasma PS50A556S2FXXU

I wouldnt be surprised if this were a ground plane (digital or analog ground) carrying through from board to board - bad design if so. Ribbon cables were ideas spawned from the depts of HELL!

Ok i had to get that out - I feel better now.

You're exactly right - like replacing Y-buffers is a real PAIN getting those short flat cables into their ultra sensitive sockets. If cables are damaged, the entire plasma screen is garbage.

Sorry not got back to you yet, been away.

Il get a photo up asap, but to answer your question its just loads of tracks/lines within the cable. No damage on the other side.

That is one you cannot criticize the design, it is very high number of conductors, and there is only so much room available.

That damaged ribbon on this Z SUS is non-critical since this is all parallel connections.

That tell you have problem either in logic board or mainboard if the menu is either overlaid or defective with bars running through the menu.

          Cheers, Wizard

Well you said you replaced the "y-board" did you replace the y-sustain? or Y-buffer?

if you havent replaced the buffer, it seems thats your issue and you replaced everything around it without replacing "it"

              Re: Samsung 50" Plasma PS50A556S2FXXU

y-board meaning the y-buffer, the most common fault.

But I believe this faulty tv has a bad display. Iv shown the images before of the ghosty white effect, which is difficult to see in this first picture, but look at the following pictures, which show it more clearly once removing the power to the pcbs that run along the bottom of the tv....

Ignore the vertical lines they are present due to disconnecting the bottom pcbs.

Now whats seriously annoying is i sourced a display panel that has the same model number, that also had some pcbs attatched... great i thought! Untill it got here, has same model number yes but different pcbs and the mounting brackets on the back are different!!

If you replaced the upper buffer as Wizard said then you need to go after the y driver that feeds the buffers. I have only worked on two of these. (mosfet type). I think you have a problem with outputs feeding those buffers only because the whole buffer dropped out and replacing the buffer didn`t change anything. One pinstripe is pdp (ribbon cable failure/ damage) a bar is either bad buffer or no input to that buffer.

I have a hitachi with mosfet drivers. I think it`s time to check this theory out.
I wouldn`t give up just yet.

Thanks for all your help guys, but iv just tried replacing this Y-driver and buffers from the other screen and no difference :-(
Exact same lines same size accross the screen.

Oh and before i forget the menu is fine, apart from these two lines running through it!

Pending verification from Wizard, that would indicate a problem with the panel or the non-replaceable tapes running from the buffer to the panel itself.
