Thanks for the reminder about the voltages, I have been tearing apart electronics since I was pretty young, and have grabbed the wrong thing a time or two and got bitten. So I am really careful now. : )

The second to the bottom pin on the 9 Pin connector (CN804) is labeled Vg.
Pressing power button does not make difference on any test
    Step 2. = 15V
    Step 5. X Drivers unplugged = 15V
    Step 8. Z Sustain unplugged = 15V
    Step 11. Y Sustain unplugged = 15V

The Top Two pins on the 9 Pin connector (CN804) are labeled VS
Tested both pins and they were the same on all tests.
Pressing power button does not make difference on any test.
    Step 2. = 2.8V
    Step 5. X Drivers unplugged = 2.8V
    Step 8. Z Sustain unplugged = 1.7V
    Step 11. Y Sustain unplugged = .7v

The second to Last pin on the right Z Driver connector (CN812) is VA
It was 0v on all tests.

I have included better pictures of the CN804,CN805,CN806,CN812 connectors
    CN805 Left 10 pin Y Sustain
    CN804 Right 9 Pin X Sustain
    CN 806 Left X Driver
    CN812 Right X Driver

Thanks for your help Hope I gave you what you needed to know
Well, that's pretty clear information. If any of the voltages mentioned on the white label on the upper right corner of the panel do not appear, you are dealing with a bad power supply.

      Thanks PlainBill

Now that we have narrowed it down to the power supply, How do I go about troubleshooting it?

      Thanks again

Also I found the service manual on http://elektrotanya.com
Here is a link to it on my google docs.

Didn't see a schematic in there for the main power supply board though

You've got the manual for the Asian version. It's got a different power supply. There should be a couple of part numbers on the power supply. Look for something starting with LJ.

            The power supply parts numbers
            are Sanken p/n BN96-01047A
            or PSC10071J M

This TV might be an Asian version as its in Australia

OK, that explains the other thread. The power supply is available at prices ranging from $129 to $280 (US$), plus shipping. Frankly, this is an old beast. Wizard may have a contrary opinion, but I wouldn't recommend investing the money.

Whoops!!! Searching that part number and schematic got exactly one hit - on Scribd.

Re: Samsung PS-42P4H Plasma Turns on and off clicking

yes, not much info out there on it.

I did find some info today that there might be an updated part number of BN96-00923A. Haven't found much info on that one either.

The price of the power supply is why I was trying to find a way to repair it rather then buy a new board.

I would prefer to fix the board, but if I have to buy the board it won't be too bad. I am only into this TV for a $100. So I won't considered it too bad of deal if I end up getting a working TV for around $250-$300

Prices on TVs here in Australia are quite a bit higher, then in the states.
Once repaired I could probably get $600 out of it as I have seen similar plasmas go for that on Ebay.

Would it be worth it to just start replacing caps on the board?
I don't have an ESR meter but I do have a capacitance on my Fluke, so I could start pulling them off and checking them for that.
Kind of considering buying an ESR for this and future projects.

Not sure were I should go next.

                Thanks for the Help.

Sorry, you're talking to the wrong guy here. I've only encountered power supply problems twice. The first one I spent the better part of a week troubleshooting. I found that all capacitors were good, none of the semiconductors were shorted, and only the 3.4 volt supply even started to come up. I wound up buying a replacement. The second was actually a failure of the DC-DC converter on one of the other boards.

I do seem to remember I have information on troubleshooting plasma power supplies, however. I'll see if I can locate the source and will post the link.

Re: Samsung PS-42P4H Plasma Turns on and off clicking

Sorry guys I might be bothering you. I have the same TV purchased in Australia, using now in mumbai India. I am also having problems with my power supply. Once there was a power surge in our area and the TV went "Bhoooph". The fuse of my switch board also got burnt. I change the fuse and put the TV on. All my other appliances are working except for the this TV. Its gone in standby mode (Red light blinking) and would not turn on, no matter what ever mode I use. Direct button from the TV nor the remote. It just doesn't start. Can any one help me to solve this problem.
                    Thanks
