    Samsung SyncMaster 2220BW bad caps?

My monitor started doing this recently, when I turn it on it stays on for 1-2 seconds then it turns to black. But I vaguely see the shapes of the windows opened. From what I've read it's either a driver issue or bad caps, I've tried it on another computer and it has the same problem, so I'm pretty sure it's the bad caps. However, when I opened it up, I don't see any caps are bulging. I took some pictures of the PCB and the caps, can you guyes tell me if these caps are still good? Thanks.

    Overall PCB shot

    Close up on the caps

    1) Post your pics using this

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1868

    2) The caps on your board are suspect brand names like su'scon. Most members here will tell you to recap everything with name brand caps like Rubycon, Panasonic, or United Chemicon.

    3) What you are describing is 2 seconds to black. This could be a number of things. Do you have a multimeter? There are fuses which might be open, transistors that might be shorted and/or transformers that are bad.

    4) Take clear focused pictures (top down view) by taking the board to the window on a sunny day and use macro mode. That way, we can a bit better. Also, some will want to see the backside.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

After visually inspecting this board, It seems as somthing burned near the main power connector. There is some discoloration of the board. Can you take a picture of that component and the solder side of the board where it is located. This component is located to the right of the power connector and to the top of one of the transformers. Fuzzy picture to see component identification.

I took a closer look at the main PCB, I found a burnt out ceremic capacitor. I also found what looks like an identical capcitor on the other side of the PCB, the numbers on it is 12J 3KV JNC. I found out that this means it's a 12pF 3000v capacitor. I found a 56pF 3000v capacitor on eBay, but I think that's too big of a difference. I found that Digikeys has an equivalent part, but they seem like a wholesale company, does anyone know what their minimum order quantity is?

Here are some high res pics of the PCB and the burnt out cap. (these pics are huge, so I won't embed them)

The PCB near the cap on the bottom left is slightly discolored, the cap on the bottom right is the burnt out cap.

I'm not sure if you are being obstructive, or just obtuse. Retiredcaps directed you to to https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1868 for information on posting pictures. This site is intended to provide a resource for others with similar problems. Using other image posting sites is discouraged because it results in broken links, and useless threads.

Also, posting large pictures inline as you did is your first post is also discouraged. It places an unnecessary burden on the server, and generally irritates those who might otherwise help you.

Also, I am curious if there was a special reason you posted in the TV's and Video Sources area rather than in the monitors area?

For a number of reasons, both health and personal, I will no longer be active on this board. Any PMs asking for assistance will be ignored.

Imageshack has been around for years and they are not going anywhere. I also have a pic of the VGA & DVI output board, but no caps looks burnt or bulging there. From my own research it seems like the problem is on the main PCB, that's why I only posted that PCB. Also, the pictures I post are large because I want people to see the details, I've gotten voltmod help online by posting big pictures because people can see the traces on the PCB and was able to help. But anyways, I'm going to replace that burnt out cap, if that fixes it great, if not then I'm throwing this away. Because replacing the inverter is not worth the money to fix it.

Are there any electronics repair parts stores in your area? I could look up to see if there were but your location isnt listed in your profile. If there is any, then you could find one there or they could order you just 1 or 2 from wholesalers. This is the fastest way for me to get parts. If you find something on ebay, I have heard rumors of non working parts. I have parts on order that I placed from a month ago and it's still on the way from China. Dont get discouraged. This fix should be easy if it is just the cap but it's worth the time and energy.

I found a guy on eBay that sells this, but he sells it in 100 packs, while it's not expensive ($14 + shipping), I'm going to keep looking to see if I can find a cheaper seller. This is not my main monitor, so I'm not in a big hurry to fix it.

Finally found a seller on ebay that sells this in a small quantity, I replaced the burnt out cap yesterday, it works fine now.

                  Huge pic.

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2220BW bad caps?

The burnt PCB is mostly from trying to de-solder the old cap, the solder on there was very hard to melt.
