Why I love Japanese CRT sets (especially the older ones)

One of the reasons why I love Japanese (and certain other Asian, including Korean) CRT sets is that because they are easy to service, and seem to last a long time (especially the older ones).

I tend to find some (but not all) of the European CRT sets a little hard to service because some have the "bells and whistles" in them (I found that some of the early European colour sets released in Australia around 1975 had them).

Please discuss your experiences (past and present) with servicing Japanese CRT TV sets (including rebadges of Japanese sets, and especially the early ones!) here.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

I have a 1981 Sony Trinitron KV-1543R I plan on probably doing a recap as i want it to last indefinately, however iam curious if you happen to know if the early 80s sony tvs are easy to service or not and if they have a ton of caps in them?

Not ancient but I use a 1992 model Panasonic Superflat tube (not a Gaoo but a very nice set) in my workshop. It still has a great picture. I put it together from 2 or 3 sets, one of which was fairly new when the power supply was taken out by lightning. Had another one that was run 24-7 for a few years and the CRT was completely worn out which I took the power supply out of . Have had to re-cap the vertical cct (very common on these) and re-solder a few other areas but it looks good for an 18 year old set! IMO after those sets in the mid 90s, the Panasonics went downhill and didn't make another CRT that was anywhere near as good as the Superflats. Aside from the Sonys of the time I consider the Panasonics of the early 90s to be some of the best CRT sets ever made.

I also used to service a lot of Hitachi sets from the late 70's thru the 90s. They too had their share of problems with vertical caps and transistors (ICs in the later ones) and a lot of their flybacks were terrible. We'd run them on a Variac down around 85-90V just so they wouldn't go into shutdown and watch the flyback crater and shoot smoke out the side..........it didn't damage anything else but it was a good quick way to confirm the flyback was the problem.

Japanese language -- Win7 or Linux Mint?
          by Hondaman
I ordered a Japanese book, it will never be published in English. A Mr. Fujumoto was a Japanese sushi chef who became a cook for Kim Jong-Il. He was not perceived as a threat to the dictator's power, so he became very close to the dictator. Apparently, the dictator is QUITE hedonistic, with a lot of debauchery. Although he can spend as much as $700,000 per year on alcoholic beverages and this alcohol is NOT actually the highest quality. Also, the dictator has 24 palaces. One of them is as large as TEN YANKEE STADIUMS PUT TOGETHER. Are they all that large?

          Does anyone have experience...

Soldered wifi upgrade to wifi 7 BE200D2W from older AX2xx based moduels.
          by acedogblast
I have finally found a source for Intel's BE200 wifi soldered "1216" sized modules (not the larger 2230 removable M.2 modules) and I was wondering if it is possible to swap the older AX2xxD2W wifi 6/6e with this new wifi 7 module on a laptop. Supposedly both the BE200D2W and the older AX2xxD2W chips use the standard "M.2 1216 footprint" but with an additional inner-ring of pads. We have schematics of various laptops that use the AX2xxD2W chips on this forum. What we need is a schematic of a laptop that uses the new BE200D2W to check if the pinout is identical or not. Do anyone...

Firmware for older Toshiba TV 22CV100U
          by DarrenHD
HI all, Does anyone know if there exists an archive for older firmwares for Toshiba TV's? I've searched all over Toshiba's various websites and also on Dynabook's site (they say they deleted all old firmwares due to "server space". ) Toshiba has not replied to my request.

I'm looking for Firmware 1.07 for the 19/22/26/32 C100U series as described in this link:

          https://support.dynabook.com/support...tentId=2865076

          Thanks!

          by Venniiee
          Hello everyone ,

Im a beginner in repairing gpu's and ofcourse i start with low and cheap cards to repair before jumping to the big boys .
I have seen the popular post of "software for gpu memory problems" with the grub menu and everything , and i am using it .
          Currently i am working on gtx 500 & 400 series cards , like the 560 & 460 for example .
The program should work with 500 series , but i cant get it to run on my gtx 560 . Any suggestions ?
Also the "ms-dos" option in the menu , how to work that ? I cant find...
