LG 42LE4900 no backlight, possibly no display

im trying to sort a 42LE4900, it turns on does its cylon red light thing with the power led then that goes to white but nothing on the screen. no backlight and from what i can see no display. there is a click from the driver board like a relay closing.

measured the voltages on the backlight connectors to the metal back plate and get 65v red 0v black 11.5v black this is the same for all the used connector pins apart from one that reads 9.5v.

ive tried to disconnect the main cpu board as id heard it should then just fire up the leds when power is applied, but this didnt work.

each of the 4 backlight voltage should be 100v if i remember correctly
mainboard and psu dissconnect dont work on lgs as far as i know only samsungs
If i remember correctly these are a edge lit tv with the led driver board mounted onto the psu its been a while since ive fixed one of these

LE, LV, LW and LS series suffer from BGA failures on the main board. To confirm, heat up the processor with a hair dryer before plugging in. Lots of ebay sellers offering repair service in the US. Not sure about UK.

wouldnt it flash some sort of error on the power led if it was that? ive got a cheap rework tool i could heat it up with, though i always think im going to end up cooking the IC when using such temps. certainly back when i started electronics we were always taught not to hold the iron on the pins and work round the pins diagonally.

plus when you plug it in it goes to standby then if you press the side button it tries to startup and there is a click as if the power board is trying to supply the LEDs.

Error codes on tv's are rudimentary at best. Heating up processor is easy way to eliminate possible bga problem.
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

remember your are not trying too reflow the ic your only heating the bga chip up too expand parts and see if it tempory fixes the issue

if no joy, maybe try to run the powerboard as stand alone, to see if you can get the backlights up, this one is unfamiliar to me so I don't know the procedure.

is there a way i can test the led strings without pulling the screen apart as it looks quite delicate.

ive got a bench psu that will go upto 30vdc 5a.

also have a scope, multimeter etc.

each led string is 100v i think

Panasonic LED TV TC-40A420U - Replaced Backlight LEDs but now no image/display or garbled
                        by signal.quest
I have a Panasonic LED TV TC-40A420U. The TV was given to me as an attempt to fix or throw out. I replaced the Backlight LEDs and now the screen lights up, but there is no image/display. If I play with the up/down buttons I can get the display to change from black to garbled. I can't get sound from HDMI but not sure of what input is selected. I have no remote control. When I connect a laptop to the HDMI ports it recognizes a Panasonic TV for display and sound output but I can't see or hear anything through the TV. This makes me think the mainboard is OK, but not sure if mainboard can...

                        SF314-41 BIOS without internal display
                        by lanovey
                        Hello there,
I have a SF314-41 motherboard that i bought impulsively recently, the problem is that i only bought the motherboard only, nothing else. When i tried powering on the board with 19V (soldered on the DC IN port), and then shorting the pin 1-2 of the keyboard, the board is turning on (as indicated by the fan), however it seems like the board is displaying on the internal display as connecting to a display on the HDMI (external) does not display anything.
I tried connecting a USB keyboard, the keyboard is powered on, however pressing numlock do nothing (supposed to toggle...

Acer XF240Y display backlight on and off then stays on but no display
                        by dbuergi
                        Hi all,

my display shows some strange bevahior. The backlight turns on, off and then stays on but i get no display or Acers logo. After some time it goes into standby. My notebook identifys the screen when i connect it by HDMI but i don't get an image.
Voltages seem normal and the only possible problem i found is the cap on C33 on the tcom board. It shows 0 Ohm and 0V in diode testing. Any ideas for next steps or what i can check?...

                        by MtapeK
Hello I have an 820-01041-A that does not have BOTH display and Backlight. The MBP was working properly to wake up without Display overnight. I have Tried SMC and NVRAM reset they both are not solving my Problem. The CapsLock on the KeyBoard, is working when you power it ON, and when you plug the Charger it's Responding with a sound that signifies the MBP has BOOTED in to SYSTEM. I have tried an HDMI (external Screen) its NOT Displaying anything. Also the INTERNAL Display Shows nothing.
                        1. I have Changed U9850 and the results are still the same, Discovered that the IC is working on a Good Known

                        Hi
I have the exact same fault as princepal
                        No display, no backlight, BL_PWR_EN = 0V
Lid sensor works fine, also ext display via USB works fine.
I don't have a spare display available for testing, any idea how to proceed?

                        Thanks!...
