    Using Samsung Backlight as lighting

    Got a Samsung UE49MU62220, powersupply = BN44-00807H
The screen is broken, not the problem though.
I want to use the unit for lighting.
Without mainboard, so called "Forced Backlight" functions fine ... only ..it's full on.
I would like to be able to dim the "unit"

Unfortunately i can not find schematics/diagram of how the leds are driven, only some snippets here and there since it seems somewhat same for several designs from Samsung.

BLU_PWM on CNM803 from the mainboard seems to be the signal that does this ..but how ?
0.9 - 3.3V(full) should change the level. Could i just get a voltage from the powersupply and run it through a potentiometer or is it some special frequency requirement ?
There is also vr9051, could i abuse this or is it only to limit max. current ?

Re: Using Samsung Backlight as lighting

If the power supply has a pin called a DIM, the backlight adjustment is done there.
It may be called something else. With a positive voltage of about 3V the baclight is maximum. With voltage 0 (ground) it is minimal

Well, since i can´t find a diagram or schematics ...

There might be a pin ANA-DIM

edit- attached picture is from a different model, pinout does not match mine, i get 13v on pin 2,3,4,5 pin6=0.4-0.5v only 11 and 12 seem to be ground, rest gives 3.2 3.3 and 5

Re: Using Samsung Backlight as lighting

        man, need new eyes
pinout is on the pcb of course
but not helping much of course

        i get 3.2v out of ana-dim and 3.1 pwm-blu

so, if these are outputted from the powersupply TO the mainboard ..yet the mainboard regulates the brightness through software ?! but the header for the backlight is on the powersupply ?!

short pwm_blu or ana_dim to ground (through potentiometer) or what ?
i don´t understand how it regulates the current here

The PSU is generating these voltages as part of the self-test that samsung has, if you wire the PSU manually, simulating a motherboard, then you will need to input voltages into PWM and DIM pins, 1~3V is the variable range for brightness, DC should be fine.

            Summary for TL-DR readers:
            • Backlight is intermittent, may come on with TV boot or not. No flickering, never fails during TV on.
            • Have obtained Samsung schematic & service documents - Can upload if helpful.
            • Have read ALL applicable threads
            • C1818 and CP820 replaced as low hanging fruit
            • CN802 data taken for normal and failed BL operation. SUMMARY: Pin 2 - 5vDet = 3.52 @normal, 0.0 @BL fail. Pin 6 - EPWM = 1.631 @normal, 1.058 @BL fail.

            Samsung QE82Q70RAT no backlight
            by sansanpartida
            Hi everyone!

Hope you're all having a great day, and thank you very much for stopping by and taking the time to read this post to help me with my parents' Samsung TV.

            My issue: No backlight.

            Model: QE82Q70RAT
            Type No: QE82Q70RAT

The TV was already serviced by Samsung once under warranty for the exact same issue, but six months after the fix, the backlight went out again. Now, Samsung is asking for nearly the same price as a brand new TV to fix this with the same 6-month guarantee.

So hopefully, I can fix this cheaper.

Samsung UN55NU7300F Curved TV. Half side backlight out. Fixed by just removing the rear snap cover
            by howardc64
TV was fixed just after removing Samsung's rear snap cover.

This curved TV's construction is rather interesting. When the snapped on back is removed, rest of the TV will relax the curvature. Top of LCD panel is loose as it wants to straighten out against the slightly curved bezel. Snapped back provide most of the curvature shape. So just simple disassembly of rear cover will allow the rest of the TV frame to relax its curvature. Thats probably what fixed it but no idea which connection. 4x LEDs are edge lit.

Maybe PSU->backlight connector didn't have a good contact?...

Samsung QN75Q6FNA backlight no display, red LED blink 2x, fault in panel
            by howardc64
            • Prior owner tried a replacement main board. No difference.
            • Samsung 2x red blinking standby LED = panel fault
            • Jumpered FB_TRDY_1 (pin 1 CN1300 left. main tcon->left side buffer boards) and FB_TRDY_3 (pin 95 CN1301 right. main tcon->right side buffer boards) This allows testing individual T-Con (on main board) connection to panel on this Samsung. Found fault on left side (viewing from rear of TV)
            • Each side has 2 buffer boards, disconnected left side flex between 2 buffer boards. Fault is on the left most board.
            • Tape masking eventually isolated to CN1300 pin 15 (CKV4_GOA) Display
