    Sylvania 42" Plasma TV

    Samsung Panel: S42SD-YD05

Friend asked me to take a look at his 42" Plasma that had a couple of thin vertical lines on it.

Attached is a picture of the display. I just wanted to get a professional opinion before I dive into this one - I am curious if this is likely panel failure or something fixable.

My thoughts are it's either an X-driver or the control board. But that is REALLY only a guess. Wizard is the expert. The service manual for the panel is here:

      Re: Sylvania 42" Plasma TV

Panel is junk. The thin vertical lines is terminal.

Reason is: the vertical lines is driven by the Z drivers (at bottom or both top and bottom depending on panels) and these chips is bonded to the panel itself. Same thing with vertical band as well.

If the lines or bands across, it is fixable by changing Y or the X driver (the board on left, most of time or right side)

Figured it was either a bad panel or a bad z driver or control board problem as plainbill was thinking.

As usual, the expertise of wizard, plainbill and the like is a blessing here. Your guys advice throughout this forum is greatly appreciated.

        Thanks.

Who makes the pdp? Didn`t some of these drivers have solder problems for verticle line issues?

No solder joints on Z-driver ICs. They are bonded to the panel itself.

Just to be clear by bonded you mean the die itself is soldered to the board and encased in that black epoxy blob we're so used to seeing right?
Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

                Hello I Have a Philips with panel s42sd-yd05 with Y board lj92-02016a.
I saved it from going garbage about 2008 and replaced y board fets 5014 and 5015.
It worked fine since to the end of the 2013. It had a flickering picture problem.
Now I got disassembled: Power supply work fine checked the coltage the caps and looked ac rattle with scope on dc lines. All of mentioned are correct. Checked the Y board for caps or bad diodes of transistors, did not found any shorted.
Whed I ran the panel with the dip switches in internal mode...the full white screen:
                The panel is like strobo...
Is it the some IC from Y board?

                Best

                  Screen Display Vertical Multicolor Lines
                  by Stanley1843
Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

This is my 2nd broken TV I'm trying to fix and haven't been able to figure out... currently going without any working TVs so am hoping to be able to fix one..

This Samsung PN50B430P2D Plasma has this big block of vertical lines which will fade in shortly after turning the TV on. The lines will sometimes flicker a bit or fade in/out and sometimes it just stays present. The length of time it takes them to appear varies, sometimes its a few minutes and other times it appears immediately after powering on.

I have attached an image of the TV with these bars displaying....

                  by gpo23
                  Hello,

                  i order a t-con because i had bad colors on my SONY KDL-40V3000 :

With the new t-con the color are good but there are vertical lines on all the screen :

I've tried the old t-con and it returned to the initial issue (bad colors but no vertical lines)

Is there a way to fix the vertical lines on the new t-con ?

                  Thank you for your help

Thanks for offering your assistance with this. I'm an electronics enthusiast with moderate level of competence (have a decent lab with two power supplies, microscope, DSO, hot air, good iron, can competently work at a component level on SMDs, design and solder own PCBs etc). I really enjoying fixing things and learning new stuff so took up a free 58" LED TV and have been googling and watching Youtube videos to see if I can fix this! I am happy to go down to individual component replacement/strip replacement etc - it's all in the name of learning.

The issues are as follows: the...
