Sony KD-55XE7004 - No image, backlight works, new T-Con didn't help

    Hi all,
I've got 2 broken TVs these are:
    Sony KD-55XE7004
    Sony KD-55XE7005

The 05 has a broken panel, everything else works fine, you can still see the image and menu through the cracks a bit.

The 04 displays no image. No Logo, no menu, nothing.
The backlight works fine, all LEDs are on and voltages on every series strip are the same.
The LED indicator blinks whenever I press something on the remote, so it does recognize it.

I was hoping to just swap the broken panel of the 05 with the working one of the 04.

The difference between these models is that the 05 has an interpolated refresh rate of 200 Hz the 04 only has 100 Hz. Both do only 50 Hz natively.
My knowledge of this is not that deep, I assumed that the panel would be the same and the mainboard is just a bit different, is that the case?

I moved all three boards (Mainboard, T-Con, PSU) from the 05 chassis into to 04 chassis so I don't have to handle the 55” panel but that made no difference.
The TV still turns on fine but still doesn't display anything.

I also tried different combinations of T-Con, Mainboard and PSU swaps but none worked.
The wires were also changed to exclude a failure of these.
I tried the 04 boards with the 05 panel and here they did actually work.

The T-Con seems to be exactly the same, the Mainboard and PSU are slightly different.

    T-Con:
    04: LMY550FN02 | 17Y_HU11APHTA44L V0.0
    05: LMY550FN02 | 17Y_HU11APHTA44L V0.0

    Mainboard:
    04: 1-981-926-22 | 173657422
    05: 1-981-926-11 | 173657411

    PSU:
    04: APDP-209A2
    05: APDP-209A1

I have uploaded some high-res images of everything here.
    Imgur Gallery

Can a panel itself just be defective?
There are no signs of damage on the flex cables to the actual panel.
The Tv has just stopped displaying anything from one day to the other.

Do you have any suggestions on what could cause this fault here or what I could test next?

    Any help is much appreciated!

The panel can be the culprit but you can easily test that by swapping all parts from the 7005 into the 7004. All parts are interchangeable.

I already tried that as described above but it did not work.

What can go bad on a panel itself? There isn't really any electronics on that part.

there are small long driver boards along the bottom of the frame of the set. You should check the smd components therein particularly with respect to the capacitors. Of course, it would be a good idea to measure voltages that appear somewhere on the cards (as labelled) to see what's up. Since you can make the set of cards work with the broken panel, you have a basis for the comparison when doing the same measurements with the non-displaying panel. Go from the results.

The panel are compatible if the tcon boards are the exact same. Sony TVs can’t always just swap boards without updating the software as mentioned by Naushad

Try updating the software and see what happens.
It could also be the panel is no good. Try unplugging one side of the lvds cables from the tcon to the panel and see if you get any picture on half the tv

Sony 8K XBR-75Z8H White Screen Vertical Bars Tcon Code. Help Needed🙏
                    by Daren87
                    Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

This chinese all in one computer gives an image when connected to an external vga monitor but only the backlight with integrated monitor (no image). Initially I thought it was an edid problem on the eeprom of the screen but then I saw that the monitor works correctly with another identical motherboard (model th410-d4, read by bios). Unfortunately the motherboard is chinese and has no brand or codes on the pcb. The format seems ITX. Nothing can be found online. The official yashi site provides drivers but not the bios. The electrical diagram is obviously unobtainable

                    Sony KD-55AG9 TCON?
                    by bbrain
                    Hi,

I have this problem with my Sony 55' AG9.
                    It flashes 4x.
I have found the service manual, and seems it is the TCON.

Before I buy a TCON can someone check the vid?

                    Thanks in advance!...

Sony KD-65x8500b - bad Tcon or panel?
                    by rimwall
Hi, hoping for some views on this one which I've not come across before. The TV generates an image that has 12 noticeable bands across it. The image is still there and accurate, but the colour (or perhaps the brightness) changes gradually across each band which creates a noticeable 'step change' at the edge of each band. Given it's a 4K TV with 2160 rows of pixels, I'm guessing the 12 bands correspond to 12 gate drivers of 180 rows each. If this guess is right, then perhaps:
                    a) all the gate drivers are malfunctioning the same way (which seems unlikely), or
                    b) the Tcon board is malfunctioning,...
