    Acer AT3201W sound no video

Okay I picked this set up for 15.00 thought it would be a good set to practice on. I have limited knowledge when it comes to this type of thing but, I am a very willing student when it comes to learning.

(the acer logo appears for a second then to black screen for all the below tests)

I get this Acer AT3201W home and I plug it in do the usual hook up different audio/video to the various inputs. Same result audio is fine no video.

No obvious caps bulging, nothing looks burnt or shorted so I focus in on the inverter board. I measure all primary and secondary on the transformers. I
find that one of the s2 has a reading of 0 so I have removed this transformer and waiting on the replacement to come in.

    Question
Should I be checking anything else while I wait ?
also I would like to check the voltage going to this board but I do not have the schematics so I have no idea what point to test any ideas ?

BTW this is a great site lots of knowledgeable people here I have learned so much following some of the different threads here

    thanks again
    Ron

What resistance range did you use to measure the secondaries? By the picture I notice that one transformer appears to be missing. Did you check the suspect out of circuit?

There's not much else to test. Transformers in inverters fail all the time, so there is no point in going beyond this to find a cause.

Looks to me the only problem you are going to have with your $15 'practice TV' is you aren't going to be getting a lot of practice. Good work!

Hopefully that's the only problem. I will let you know when the new transformer is installed.

Re: Acer AT3201W sound no video (SOLVED)

Well the transformer came in today and I eagerly soldered it in place .

Everything is working fine now for the last couple hours.

Thanks again to all that helped !.

Now I need to find another set to learn on .

Hi Guys. I have a Acer AT3201W with near the same problem. Acer Logo, then black screen and lots of sound.
Measured the transformers, but they all have the same measurement in comparison, and seem to be okay. Could there be a PSU outage fault?
How come the logo screen comes on if there is a fault?

                          Taa, thanks a lot

There are many causes for the 'two seconds to black' problem. Search, read, troubleshoot, fix.

Hello MDC66, I have got the same problem you have, I found a faulty 2005D on the inverter pcb, I replaced it but the screen still only powers up for about one second then back to black screen, before I fitted the new transformer the TV would not power up, I have spent hours online looking for a circuit diagram for this TV but had no luck yet, I've emailed Acer and Delta Electronic of china and had no response from them at all, not a very good way to run a company, seems once they have your money you can go whistle for all they care, so now I'm going to research all the semiconductors on the PSU, I think the problem might all be down to the IC which controls the power up and stand by function, I will keep you posted when I find the fault, if anyone reading this has any other ideas where to look for the fault please let me know, thanks for reading this.

Re: Acer AT3201W sound no video

Hello everyone...this column has been great for help narrowing down a similar problem with my at3201w. Initially I had the 2 second Acer logo then the unit would shut off and remain in standby mode....needing a hard reset with power switch....replaced the inverter board. That solved the backlight issue...

Now the issue is when you turn it on with remote or by button....picture comes on....but buttons do nothing until you hard reset again with power switch on the back. Then t.v. works fine.....so I replaced the power board....same problem.

So now i'm down to the main board....

I don't have very much experience switching out bad caps and doing tests on them, so any help would be appreciated. I know just enough to be dangerous!

                                    Thanks
