Tcl 65s401tdaa sound only, keep reading

So I work at a TV Parts distributor and I have a customer who has a TCL 65S401TDAA GTC002311A. His original issue is sound, no picture. We have sent him 3 main boards, we know they are good, as they are all doing the exact same thing, but they are distorting his picture. He has replaced the TCON also which made no difference in his symptoms. But here is where it gets weird, including some of his emails: "
I received the second replacement main board, but I'm having the exact same distorted image as with all three boards. I have tried each of them with the original and the replacement TCON boards all with same distorted image. The original problem was black screen with sound only. My first repair was to replace the TCON board but it had no effect, I still had black screen sound only. It stands to reason that I have ruled out the TCON board and it can't be the power supply board. Since replacing the main board restores the picture even though it's distorted, it seems that must be the problem. None of the cables can be crisscrossed, no plug ends are similar. I did email the TV mfg TCL and I'm waiting for a reply. Do you have anyone there that might have an idea of why this could be happening? ""

"I did a little more research and here's what I found.
In the system settings it shows the wrong TV model 55S405 actual TV is model 65S401
Performed factory reset and software update, no change.
I tried to get into the service menu, but I can't gain access https://www.hardreset.info/devices/t.../service-mode/
Is the fact that the system info is detecting wrong TV model a main board issue or system issue?"

"I researched online and others got into the TCL service menu (unspecified model) and changed the TV model to match the actual TV which resolved there specific picture issue. Not sure why I'm not able to access the service menu? Do you know another way how to access it?
I guess I can take out the most recent board and try the second most recent board you sent and see what model number shows up in the system setting. Do you think if both boards are not matching the actual model that tells us anything? After that I can only take it to a repair shop to verify the issue."

    Any thoughts on this????

His original problem was bad backlights. Symptoms of bad backlights are typically the tv turns on with no backlights or the backlights flash when turned on. When I sell boards from models with backlight issues, I always put a warning to confirm the backlights are working before replacing boards. Shopjimmy also does this in their part descriptions.

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=91641

People always want an easy solution for no backlights and want to replace the power supply. Shutdown of backlights is a protection feature and not a bug.

Not sure about the distortion issue from the main boards. They typically need to match the panel and tcon.

if his backlights were bad then our main boards wouldn't show the picture all lit up, just distorted. His backlights are fine.

"The original problem was black screen with sound only. My first repair was to replace the TCON board but it had no effect, I still had black screen sound only. "

Backlights were intermittent. The replacement main board may have had the backlight set at a lower level or they randomly came back.

Assuming the model doesn't have local dimming, the only control the main board has for the backlight is to turn them on and off and to adjust the backlight level.

Well if you can't get in to change the info, maybe try to get the exact mainboard match to your tv.

We have confirmed via several sources that we are sending the right main board for his model/GTC.

Could be a panel issue, with tv unplugged from power, connect only one side at a time between the tcon and panel, power tv up, see if you have a good display on half the screen, do both sides, report results.

If you didn't already and are able, try a reset.

This may get you in service menu:

With the TV on, Select Home
                  Select Setting and OK
                  Select System and OK
Select About and OK, System info for TV will be displayed
Use the remote and press the following sequence: Up, Right, Down, Right, Up
Press the Fast Forward button 3 times
Press the Rewind button 2 times
Use the remote and press the back arrow (it's located on the top left just below the power button), this should bring you into the factory menu.

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

                    by tuner2000i
                    hello everyone,

I don't normally do tv repairs but this is a case with my personal TV which got fried together with many other electronics in my house after a thunderstorm.

The TV is a Philips 65PUS8518/12 which had no power. I measured and concluded that the main board was probably fried through ethernet or hdmi. I found a board with same number 715GD328-M0F-B00-005Y (I had G) but from a 55PUS8518. The TV starts but the image is doubled, distorted. I need to set the panel code which is 016 according to the sticker on the back but I can not seem to do it.

[SOLVED] M1 MacBook Pro clicking sound logic board 5V no power on A2338 820-02020
                    by slimmy182
Hello, I bought this Mac from a friend, he said that it simply stop working. The MacBook looks very clean but does not power on, stuck on 5v 0.42A, and sometimes display 5V and 0A (then 0.071A and again 0A).

I opened it looking for some problem, it was not touched before for sure and the board is very clena, no spot of corrosion at all from what I can see. Voltage on multimeter of the board off the case it's the same, 5V 0.42A. But then I noticed this "clicking sound" come from the board ( I attached here the audio file).

Looking on google I found this:...
