So I work at a TV Parts distributor and I have a customer who has a TCL 65S401TDAA GTC002311A. His original issue is sound, no picture. We have sent him 3 main boards, we know they are good, as they are all doing the exact same thing, but they are distorting his picture. He has replaced the TCON also which made no difference in his symptoms. But here is where it gets weird, including some of his emails: "
I received the second replacement main board, but I'm having the exact same distorted image as with all three boards. I have tried each of them with the original and the replacement TCON boards all with same distorted image. The original problem was black screen with sound only. My first repair was to replace the TCON board but it had no effect, I still had black screen sound only. It stands to reason that I have ruled out the TCON board and it can't be the power supply board. Since replacing the main board restores the picture even though it's distorted, it seems that must be the problem. None of the cables can be crisscrossed, no plug ends are similar. I did email the TV mfg TCL and I'm waiting for a reply. Do you have anyone there that might have an idea of why this could be happening? ""
"I did a little more research and here's what I found.
In the system settings it shows the wrong TV model 55S405 actual TV is model 65S401
Performed factory reset and software update, no change.
I tried to get into the service menu, but I can't gain access https://www.hardreset.info/devices/t.../service-mode/
Is the fact that the system info is detecting wrong TV model a main board issue or system issue?"
"I researched online and others got into the TCL service menu (unspecified model) and changed the TV model to match the actual TV which resolved there specific picture issue. Not sure why I'm not able to access the service menu? Do you know another way how to access it?
I guess I can take out the most recent board and try the second most recent board you sent and see what model number shows up in the system setting. Do you think if both boards are not matching the actual model that tells us anything? After that I can only take it to a repair shop to verify the issue."
Any thoughts on this????
