Edit, I just put fresh batteries in my meter and retested the voltage on BP to be sure, and its consistently 6.4VDC, 12.5VDC on the Base of Q0D1.

Is a 9.1 VZ for D0D6 still acceptable?

12.5V - 6.4V is about 6V.
so 9.1V -6.4V is about 2.7V that should be fine, that is enough reverse Voltage to keep the Transistor off and not damaging the Transistor.
I usually stock bunch of 3.3, 4.7, 5.1, 6.2, 9.1, 12V, and 15V 1W Zener in my stock. You can use through hole device since you have enough room for it.
