Re: Insignia NS-55D421NA16 8 blink error
Backlight failure is very common in Insignias and your first suspect with no backlight or if the backlights flash. Insignias don't have blink codes (only Sony, Panasonic and older Sharp models) and typically blink when booting like LG and Samsung TVs. The TV should be on with no backlight if the front LED is off. You can perform the flashlight test to see if you have an image. With only one pair of wires to the LED strips, probably an open LED if they don't flash. if you want to repair TVs, you should get a LED tester. I use mine more than my multimeter. With a LED tester, you can determine if the string has an open or power the backlight independent of the combo board to confirm the screen is good.
You can also monitor the voltages going to the LED strips when you power on. One side should be fairly high and then settle to a lower voltage if the LEDs are all good. If it doesn't settle and stays high, you likely have an open circuit in the string.
Board looks like the white label Chinese TVs branded RCA/Proscan/Seiki/Westinghouse.... Curious if the Insignia has the backlight setting accessible or if it is hidden in the service menu in these models.Last edited by neilc6; 06-11-2020, 10:25 AM. -
Re: Insignia NS-55D421NA16 8 blink error
I have another tv that is a similar insignia and found that it was backlights and i could see a faint picture but this one doesn't turn on to be able to see the picture without the backlights. But it sounds like that is what it is because of it being a common issue.
Edit: Is there always an image with bad backlights?Last edited by blake.s; 06-11-2020, 11:13 AM.Comment

Re: Insignia NS-55D421NA16 8 blink error
Most models that dont go into shutdown mode because of an error will stay on with no backlight. If the tv turns on and off with no backlight, then it is likely the backlight. If there is no backlight or if they flash, its likely the backlight. You can also try plugging a live hdmi signal into the hdmi ports and see if you have sound but its not always a good indicator since there are many scenarios where you will not have sound.Last edited by neilc6; 06-11-2020, 11:36 AM.Comment

Just keep Black probe of the meter on the chassis, Red probe on the LED connector where the White wire is then turn on the TV while watching the meter to see what it shows and wait 10 seconds, turn off the TV and repeat the same test on the Red wire.Never stop learning

by pixelcapPioneer Kuro Pro 111FD 8 blink red LED.
I have been trying to solve the power-down 8-blink red LED problem with my Pioneer.
So far I have replaced the power supply board, and the digital assembly board, I have reconnected the ribbons to all boards, ensuring the connections are good. Even though the problem is the 8 red light error and not the more common 8 blue light error code, I had Kcrownie,
based in North Carolina replace the chips that cause the 8 blue LED problem (the main board and audio board) the plasma is still powering...1 Photo -

by nervxYears ago my tv gave a 7 blink code which turned into 8 during diagnosis. I had ordered a replacement ss board but somehow the tv started working again and i never used the board. Now a week ago my tv flickered and shut off at random and gave the 8 blink error code. The same issue it had all those years ago. The only difference this time is that over the last few months there has been some purple and green tinge that comes and goes in more solid colors such as white.
Anyway i checked all the screws and replaced the ss board with a known good one and still got 8 blinks. I saw a... -
by cheeky2For anyone interested just repaired this Sony Main board TV that had a 2 blink error code, the chassis is a RB2G which is common to quite a few different Sony models. The Ceramic 10uF 25V X7R 1206 capacitor C9114 was shorted which took the smd 2A 0603 fuse out F9101. This was powering the Buck converter TPS54332 which caused no 5V output from it.
See the attached picture of the locations of both components. I also attach the best service manual I found for this board for anyone else in a similar position of trying to repair this main board. It's not specific to the TV model however it gives...01-08-2024, 05:56 AM -
by Superbee_dadHello Sharp TV experts
Our Sharp LC-80LE642U displays one short one long flash error code which is a backlight error. I went into service mode and there were 8 lamp error counts recorded. I reset the count to 0 and did a reset. The last monitor error cause was 16 B00014639:12. 16 is the code for backlight error. I tried to power the tv up but went back into error mode.
