    Element ELEFW502 Large Vertical Bars

I had this TV for a few years. I got it for free and replaced a bad LED. Another LED went out this weekend. I finally replaced it, but when I put it back together, I could see thick vertical lines on the left side of the screen. I cleaned and reseated the ribbon cables. I even swapped the cables left and right. This made no difference. Did I manage to damage the panel? Or is it possible the t-con took a hit?

Would you please post a clear picture of the connections on the inside of the TV with the back cover removed?

You may have you pinched or damaged the panel COF ribbon which would be in line with the bar on screen.

I'm thinking I messed up the bonding at the panel. I'll try to check this evening.

No visible damage to the tabs. No manipulation of the ribbons changes the symptoms. I'm feeling like the tabs must be the culprit, but I'm really hoping it's something else.

And just to confirm: is there any change if you run your finger across the bond between the LCD and the narrow PCB?

There's no change at all on either end.

Did you flick up the black bars holding the ribbon into the connectors to remove them. And with black clip up then re-insert the ribbon cable and push down to lock. The gold contacts on the end of the cables damage very easily.

I did. I even swapped the right/left ribbons. Is a damaged tab fairly obvious under magnification?

I looked over all the connections with high magnification and couldn't see anything suspicious. I guess my debate now will be whether to blow on a tcon. I'm not optimistic about that.

your best bet might be to try the tape cutoff method whereby you place strategic tape over some of the pins on the tcon to panel cable basically blocking some of the signals / voltages. this method has saved a lot of sets that don't have side tabs (your doesn't right?). Your case you want to play with left side looking at the set.

No side tabs on mine. I'm going to search for this method and try it. Thanks!

I posted about this previously but didn't get any response, and I have some troubleshooted a bit so I have more info.

The screen is full of horizontal "gaps" or lines that distort the picture badly, and after about 10 seconds of powering it on the screen starts to fill with red vertical bars that take on the horizontal pattern. After the screen filled with the red bars, they instantly vanished and then slowly started to reappear. I initially thought it was tab bonding failure, but after getting down to them and pressing each one I find zero change in the picture. I went...

                                Hi all,

70" LED TV is Sharp LC-70LE650U.

Initial problem was horizontal lines and slow motion lurrs on the bottom left of the screen. So I removed both the left and right ribbon cables from the T-con board and tried to clean it with alcohol and when I put it back, this issue appeared. I tried carefully reinserting the ribbon bon cables but same thing. I checked the traces of the ribbon cables with magnifying glass and everything looks good. I cleaned the small jumper ribbon cable on the left side of the screen which cured the horizontal line and slow motion blurs...

I'm not sure what to do next and came here since y'all helped me fix a 50" plasma TV back in 2014, which is still working!

A friend gave me an Insignia NS-50DR620NA18 50" TV that suddenly developed large vertical lines on it. He said he had no idea what might have caused it and has replaced it with a larger TV. He was going to throw it away.

I did not notice any bulged or leaking caps on any board, the voltages produced by the power supply match the voltage that the pins are marked. The backlight leds are working. I have tried cleaning the ribbon cables...

                                Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

Trash picked this plasma for parts and found it had some bad solder joints. It powered on after reworking most of the boards and seems like it may even work.

The symptoms is, when showing a picture of bright (mostly white) intensity (within the affected area only) a vertical strip 2 3/4" wide will begin to fuzz out (just to the right of samsung logo, 16 3/8" from screen edge), and soon turns black (from top to bottom). Changing to a darker scene immediatley ater will cause the black stripe to fade back in (it fuzzes and clears up again) and it starts working just fine....
